Stuart Lawrence says that he rarely uses personal experiences to create his work but One- his latest release really makes you question this. Stuart’s music in the album is raw and real. Every track is a world of its own, yet it has a thread that beads all the songs together to form the perfect sonic experience. Old school, Earthy-Rock-Country seems to be Stuart's area of expertise. Adding to his joke, he really has an Oxford understanding of melody and creating a world through it. One Stuart paints the perfect picture as we enter his world with One. The title track has a unique beat structure. It’s almost as if the song ebbs and flows with the pattern of breath rather than following the usual scale of the build-up to the crescendo and then descending in intensity. But rather it is a slow sustained tone that allows us to sink into the experience of the song. One is followed by Tanuja, a wild mixture of phrases that I have never heard before, all to describe how shy a girl is. Screaming Blue Murder with Stuart Lawrence By the time we get to Screaming Blue Murder, we have reached the rock section of the album and we are in the thick of it. Over here he speaks of the troubles in the mind. This track touches on all sorts of troubles ranging from a relationship to not being able to do anything because of the lack of companionship and the pain of hurting someone else. He bottles a complex set of ideologies into this track. The melody of the track makes for the track to be a smooth listen. Questions As we reach Questions and Heart Might Break everything soothes down. And have a smooth landing with Chasing Dreams. This peppy number helps a breathe and take in the song. He sings of a partner and the need to shelter them from their own trouble is prominent. “I’m laying here in the early morning grey, holding close the only one I’ve ever loved. Chasing bad dreams away.” Stuart seems to elevate mundane moments through his music and that itself is a gift to the world. This album would be perfect in any of the Twilight series scenes. The storytelling arch of the film and the album have similar energies. Stuart Lawrence is a one-of-a-kind melody architect who paints for us textures that have never been felt before. It is interesting to note that he creates his music with a certain amount of distance. Because relating to it as listeners isn’t difficult at all. He gently makes his way into our imagination and spills paints and textures of all kinds with his music. Need I say more?
