M & J - NOT A LOVE SONG
There is always a jazzy poppy number to brighten your day, and NOT A LOVE SONG by M & J is one such number. The duo is not new to creating numbers that take their listeners for a joyride. With over 80,000 people tuning in to listen to their songs, they seem to have a clear idea of what their audience wants. This new single embodies the duo’s personality; their ease with rhythm and rhyme stands out thoroughly. The track begins slowly, with a guitar starting us off on this journey. Right from the start, we hear a nonchalant energy from the song. It is as though M & J have a way with the tune; it is slow and weighted. The song's rhythm gently creeps up your skin and settles between your bones as the lead singer tries to convince us that it isn’t a love song; he ultimately gives a love song. Playing with juxtapositions seems to be the duo’s forte. The way we hear the drums, guitar, and the vocals is unlike anything that’s out there. The fact that they bring out the saxophone right at the end leaves us wanting more. There is a sense of playfulness and desire that the song embodies that is seen on Off Campus. Much like the film, the song too doesn’t hold back in showcasing desire and vulnerability with the lyrics and production of the song. The song is produced and crafted to perfection; each arrangement elicits a different layer of feelings. This particular track by M & J showcases a sense of raw desire while still somehow managing to remain graceful.
