George Styles - How Will I Ever Know
New Kids on the block, 'George Styles' dim the mood with hypnotic alt rock expression, 'How Will I Ever Know'. Imagine if you will, if Nirvana and Panthera joined forces to recreate their cult single, 'Cemetary Gates' but make it grunge/punk. This track feels like the result of such a thoiught experiment. And we're playing this on loop, as we did many a Nirvana and Panthera single. Seemingly outta nowhere comes George Styles, bereft of any pomp and fanfare, but with razor-sharp hard rock sensibilities and numbing, hypnotic vocals and progressions built around a fairly simple premise. How will I ever know? The track opens with aforementioned Panthera-esque, moody guitar tones. Listen closely and just tell us, you don't hear the opening notes to Cemetery Gates?! Moving on. Haunting, deadpan vocals express a infinite void in the absence of the one. His vocal tone is spine-chillingly dark and hypnotic. The murky arrangements make it hard to figure out just which way this is heading into. Pleasingly, we delve even deeper into the darkness. Patiently and deeply expressively. The vocal haunts matched by the moody, serious guitar tones. Its super minimal and feels right. Just after the two min mark, you sense a growth in impetus and intention, a few bass notes now flowing along with the airy atmospherics. With all the tension built, it was only a matter a time till the levee broke. And break it does , ending with rageful, grunge-infused, driving arrangements. This is the kind of overarching movie score we could imagine playing out in the latest movie 'Obsession'. Its dark, moody, serious tones would make for an excellent match to the film's darkness, we thinks. Enjoy!
