Solum - Circles

Solum brings in a new form of music, and his latest release – Circles – has a bassline that will have you hitting the replay button. He has set free a new form of imagination when he creates music. Experimenting with genres such as dubstep and drum and bass, slowly evolving his sound as the culture and music world around him changed to anti-pop, post-punk and indie. This apothecary of sounds has created Circles, and you are not prepared for the brilliance he has unleashed.  Solum hits the food running in the song with a guitar and synth that creates a sense of urgency. It is also a confessional number where Solum poetically puts together a piece that holds his insecurities laid bare in front of the listeners. The thumping beats of the drums and the bass guitar and the chiming tune have us mesmerised from the start. The way he plays with pace and background music is interesting. The track captures an image and becomes a time capsule of sorts. The video also reflects the same, where they have cleverly used a film-like edit that places you in a different dimension.  The track would work wonderfully in a film like What If, an endless circle of being in the friend zone until that thread snaps. Which would also be a wonderful way to describe the song; it is the thread that snapped and unleashed the flood of emotions that swirls around in one’s heart. If you are into new age music that wonderfully explores the realms and depths of being human while also maintaining the beat, Solum is the guy for you.
