Kevin Honold - The Forge
Kevin Honold creates a forest of sounds in his latest release, The Forge, a song that brings alive every buried emotion within. The singer-songwriter has his music described as rhythmic rock, but I think it is more than that. This latest release is only a drop from the ocean of music that Kevin is able to conjure up from his imagination. We see that in his previous releases as well. That multi-instrumentalist is a magician who has a seems to have several tricks up his sleeves. The track begins with just the guitar, and you can imagine the horizon expanding as Kevin’s voice enters the stage. The build in the song is insanely well put, production-wise. The layering and harmony of the orchestra and the vocals are earthy and beautiful. He has this incredible ability to build a wall of beats and rhythms that surrounds you and ultimately engulfs you. The track has a gentle confrontational feeling to it; it makes you introspect on the many storms we set aside because it is inconvenient to feel things at the moment. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty would be the perfect match for the song. Especially staying true to the themes of the song. Kevin Honold is someone who marries unique sounds, sounds that are so different you would hardly expect them to sound cohesive. But it does more than that; it brings alive colours and textures within the music that paint worlds as you listen to it. It makes you connect several emotions within, and suddenly it clicks, like the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle! It’s amazing when you have such evocative music in your hands.
