Disco Dreams - OutLands
There is something so cinematic about how Disco Dreams writes his music; he sweeps open a window into the past with OutLands, his latest release. He, much like most dynamic musicians, is a genre nomad; he sticks to no particular genre. When he releases new music, it is a cocktail of genres that evolves within the song itself. His music isn’t very loud and in your face like most techno is. It’s much more chic, patient, and intentional. This latest release is his most experimental yet. It is vogue, avant-garde, and futuristic. He writes a unique arrangement of music where he uses retro sound effects to create a futuristic soundtrack. The track opens with an almost echo-like sound effect as though you have a small vision into the future at the end of a tunnel. While the track is a concoction of sounds, it never gets overwhelming, a great sign that the producer clearly has taste. We hear vocals, but it too becomes an instrument; it is also an echo. If we can summarize the song, "echo" would be a great word; it is an echo of the past and what the future of music can look like. The track is somewhat of a grunge-rock-techno number that is filled with layers and layers of sound. While it is busy, it never strays from the narrative much like the visuals and soundscapes we see in Euphoria. Disco Dream is a magician and a producer; he could be the biggest piper with the number of followers he has. He keeps alive the spirit of experimentation in his music; a talent like that must not and will not remain in the dark for too long. Music will always find its people.
