Peter Uher-New Reality
There are genre fusions. There are intra-genre relations that give birth to exciting sounds that are rare to hear. The third category is chasing fumes of otherworldly delight. That is where this artist, Peter Uher comes in. His latest album is a compilation of his work through the years, a debut that tries to create his own envelope with the fragments of sound. This is a New Reality. For a short track, Mirror Door is your transcendental portal to Peter’s dimensions. Mere mortals cannot walk through this door, so Peter holds it open for you. It is a confluence of jazz, rock and classical strokes you witness, in a all out medley of leviathan proportions. Exciting, raw and real-you can hear every note as it was composed, as the other instruments dance around the protagonist. To create a flow like a brooks’ babble, Peter chooses and uses a traditional foundation. The gentle whisper of the flute & soft sax guide the track, Look Ahead. His guitar comes in smoothly, in due course of time, carrying with it the magnanimous effect of a leading dancer. The drama, penchant for frills and flourishes is still there, albeit in a new tempo and style. Time seems to melt away by the time the solo acoustic moments create ambient shells for the guitar to caress. What will be tomorrow is the track that now includes parts of ambient progressive. Hopefully you catch the subtle changes listening on your headphones, because they are a psychedelic introduction to the track. The beats have a dissonant echo while the guitar gets by on its minimal pizazz, creating a layered approach to ambience. Building to the name The title track is a jazz fusion number, with an addictive progression by the bass and the guitar. The drums shine as well, as the silent spine of the song, ever adapting. The tone changes are incredible, truly a sound to behold. The shift in the song is not only unexpected, but an exciting approach to song composition, with different instruments taking the lead every time. A prog-jazz number if you will, by the time the mid-point rolls around, we’re in a Silencers song. The solo jam at the end has to be heard several times to be believed. Vivien’s Dream is a wonderful short track, with the saxophone taking the cake. The guitar gently dances around this, with cat’s feet as it takes no attention away. A track that just melts through the fog and rests in your head for a while. With an R&B approach, Recently is Peter Uher’s sound palette cleanser. It makes the required impact, the strings echoing through to create a beautiful loop that melts through the framework of the song. Second by second, the track bleeds through. Riverse is what you would expect to hear, a song that sounds just as intense and unbelievable in reverse. The magic of jazz being the unpredictable nature of it. All the instruments dance with their destiny in mind, in control of the notes almost. It is a long, progressive track with plenty of elements to unpack. Peter Uher closes the album with a simple Epilogue that seems to weld fragments of his favourite sounds together, with another enchanting tone on his guitar. If this is his debut, I am excited to hear what a young artist like this has in store for us. He has not only stitched a continuous tapestry of fabric for experimentation, but composed it to a level that everyone can appreciate this art. This is a new reality we would choose to explore. When you're in the dissonance of movies like The Girl in the Dragon Tattoo or in a Jack Reacher like thriller film, you better bet this sound will punctuate the gritty scenes!
Crux-Save Me
There is a melange of sounds that collide to make Crux who they are. This is a band formed with varied influences, and it creates for a surprising journey that is tantalising and creative. Their latest single expresses all those emotives, and phrases of inspirations that have created this dramatic poetry you’ll hear. This is their single, Save Me. With phasing synths, we enter this unfamiliar realm that Crux creates. The intro is like a slow burn mystery, almost like a search for some truth. As we foray into this uncharted territory, the intro allows us to meditate before they take a Steven Wilson turn. The keys and the harmonised vocals are like an isolated choir, almost ominous. The vocals take the high pitched falsettos of Matt Bellamy, yet have the pained honesty of Max’s voice. This is absolution that will lead to redemption, and those are the routes the song will take. The synths supporting the vocals have the melancholy of strings, yet resonate with a much stronger sound. The preface being a long, convoluted intro helps in meditating over what the song aims to narrate. The visuals drawn up will be much more stark, films like Sean Penn’s Mystic River and Demolition, starring Jake Gyllenhaal. It is a bleak break, a crack of light needed to change over from the sordid ways of this protagonist. Max’s voice and the band creating this mystery laced rhythm does justice to this song. So go ahead, and try to imagine what visuals this song created for you! If you want to get more of Crux, listen to their singles like Living in Dystopia & Radgie Gadgie, some of their best work. This is a perfect prose from Crux, so enjoy!
Indya-Raise Ya Vibration
Indya commands the sound she carries. Her music is a cacophony cocktail that every true music fan will enjoy. Her energy is unmatched, and the delivery of vocals is incomparable. The kind of kick you get from her rock tracks is the spine of your party, that is what people wait for. This is her latest single, Raise Ya Vibration. Kick it to 5th gear instantly. Indya has not much time for build-ups, and her track shows. She has the drive and need to bring this intense punk rock tempo and energy. Her sound also tries to blend a new genre this time, a reggae swing. Though the aggressive distorted guitar and her fuel powered intensity is what gives the song its vibration, she keeps the song constructed within crests and waves. It pays off well, as we return to a crushing, explosive chorus with a guitar solo. It is the epitome of rock mixes, and is packed with the dynamite a song like this would need. Films like 6 Underground, Kill Bill and Mad Max could have kicked it with this song for the opening. Grabbing attention, it also classifies the protagonist as an instant badass. The tempo also allows the scene to flick by soon, while still carrying the kind of gravity it does. You would have heard her sound in indie playlists with tracks like I Wanna Be The One, Little Crush & Harder Faster among others. She is a bullet that has left the chamber, and will only gather more speed. Listen to her and support her incredible sound!
Dadalion-Hexagon Love
Dadalion has created some intense music during the lockdown. He fell in love with music again, created and produced. Now we get to hear the fruits of his labour-an experimentation and explorative sub universe hidden away within time. This is his single, Hexagon Love. This single is featured in his Lockdown EP album. It is a synth controlled vibe, pulsating and growing to create a wave of sound and enterprising developments. It layers effects and creations, transitioning where the effect demands it. All the progress is very calculated, there are no niches of time wasted, there is only a step ahead, or sideways. The kind of output he gets is a mix between some alt-rock, electronica magic and some intense electric guitar work. It runs with purpose, chasing another sound that might be on a collision course. What you hear is something from the Twilight Zone, shivering and beckoning to the transition. Dadalion doesn’t shy away from the odds as an artist. He has brought a sound to himself that is uniquely his. It is a house-trap vibe, but meditative enough to create a tiny fractal of sound that keeps on giving. I would love to see this in a sci-fi flick or even an episode of The Twilight Zone, Blade Runner or the closing credits of Star Trek. Dadalion can be experienced in his flowering, final form with his Lockdown EP. You can listen to the experience on his Spotify, where there is definitely more to come. Till then, enjoy the experience within his songs with this single and EP.
DCxPC Live Vol. 10 Presents- RATH & The Wise Guys / The Kutoffs Live at Lou's
Pure punk rock will blow your hair back. It is rebellion in musical format, paradise for bohos and misfits. RATH & The Wise Guys and The Kutoffs give a live set at Lou’s that is one for the ages. As they bring the best of live gig energy, they were kind enough to record it. Prepare for wreckage at home. Sift through the debris while looping this album again. This is DCxPC Live Vol. 10 Presents- RATH & The Wise Guys / The Kutoffs Live at Lou's. One of my favourite rock albums remains London Calling. It isn’t the compositions, but a band enraged giving it their all. RATH & The Wise Guys kick the set off. No small talk, no banter and pander. Straight to the meat, and it's divine to taste. You can practically hear the place turn over to hell, and they are tighter than a quartz clock. The riff for Melt My Brain is classic punk, pushing the energy to another dimension. Stiffed creates an alt-rock push, something that The Ramones would sound like. It is a kick-ass track with some high voltage action. My favourite parts of these songs is that they’re short, to the point and all gold. No time is wasted in a build-up, they’re as punk as it can get. RATH close out their set with Nose Candy. To reiterate, that's drugs. Another powerful track, the bass shines as much as the guitars for this riff. Meaty and chunky, you can hear the tone as much as any other instrument, the balance is pure and powerful. The Kutoffs take the stage next, and all they need is their name to incite the devil. It is an alt-rock energy that reminds you of Sum-41 & blink. Taking Off is their opener, one of their most popular singles. A little over 3 minutes, it keeps the party going and the zealous out pour of mayhem melodies. Enjoy the Ride closes out what would have been a baller evening. It is the perfect song to close out a live performance, and it has all been highs. It is a superb live performance by two high-horsepower generators of music. Though two sides of the same paper, their principles and music make the best of their talents. Their talent being the waning art of live performances. The bouncing energy, the band on fire, the jams and chemistry leading to the worn out stage. You heard 2 bands that love playing together, and no kind of performance can show it better. This was a movie in itself, so I won’t imagine anything other than the movie I missed. Feel their raw power and follow them on every platform so that you can stay up to date. For now, embrace the chaos and rock out!
Dear Amber-Appear to Disappear
Dear Amber want to rewire and revisit rock. A rock project from Denmark, they have accessed a fortune worth of experiences, and moulded their own in the process. Though you hear many influences, you hear a sharp, distinct sound in their rock. Destroying the cookie cutter form many rock bands follow, their sound pertains to the feel to create something that has been whittled around the lyrics and tune, vice versa. This is their original single, Appear to Disappear. With a chugging guitar opening, there is tension towards the intro. Usually, songs can unfold into a standardized rock pattern. The vocals alone are enough to understand how these guys are different. At the 0:47 mark, they ease into an impactful soundwave that transitions beautifully from the form before. You can feel the metamorphosis in the song, just like they can. The resonant, single note solo chooses the feel, not mindless shredding and chaos. At 1:25, you are enveloped with the full impact of the song, a wall of guitars guiding your senses from section to section. Like Porcupine Tree, their instrumental awakening is your journey as much as it is theirs. By just the lyrics, I would love to see this in Now You See Me. The flow and instrumental panache by Dear Amber is nuanced, choice elements defining the overall energy. Experience their 2021 EP Sparks Equal Fall to truly see their expanding principles and styles of rock. Their 2022 single Roadkill is another smashing song, well composed and performed. Sometimes you choose to make your presence felt. Sometimes, you appear to disappear. Follow them for more incredible music!
The Loud Bangs-Stray Honey
It might be true, the saying that you turn into what you love. The Loud Bangs then, love a lot of things. On paper, what they plan to execute doesn’t work at all. It is a mishmash of many different genres that don’t belong even in the same water. That’s where their musicality comes in. Stray Honey is to shut people like me up. By the end of this rave, it works. They open the track with Electroprize. With the washed out background, you might expect someone to croon about their lovelorn era of romance. With distorted guitar chugs, they break that expectation, and the silence. You’re hooked to this post-grunge instrumental dystopia layered with heavy reverb on the vocals. Welcome to the first wisp of the daze. Sex Complex has a club song core to it. Though you’d think that the flow is maintained by just electronic elements, they amalgamate in different proportions. It is a dreamy result, sounds that flow into each other with an ease. The jangly distortion of the guitar unites more than you think it would. A fusion supreme We Want to Be Alright has some fantastic sound production. It phases between the left and right, creating something that is a stereo dream. You’re lost in the alt-shoegaze aspect of this sound. As the crisp acoustic cuts through the Northern Lights of sound, you settle in expectations. Layers condense into creating this salad of sound, fresh and diverse, yet amicably edible. This Is a Japanese Robot has the alt-rock anticipation you want. It derives from decades of digital variation in rock, creating its own niche with surprising turns. With the vocals hidden way behind in the distance, they are merely cameos in a much larger movie. There is a joy in the disorientation they depict so well with their music-a harmony you wouldn’t typically be able to find. Closing with Bell Gardens, the dream overflows into another dimension. You might be resting on the shoulders of a New Wave movement, but sandwiched between other styles. It is almost meditative in its process, and refreshingly original. Enjoy it live or as this recording, you can imagine the psychedelia strike with only how easily it forms for The Loud Bangs. The only loud bangs till now have been the pleasant shifts of change. A surreal album by a band that isn’t afraid to test the envelope. It might be a long shot, but I could place many of these in Requiem for A Dream. Not only a brilliant depiction, but the opening up of different forays in sound asks for thorough experimentation. It is a solid, fruitful effort by a collective you might never doubt again. Listen to their album Salvation Memories and follow them as well for more music like this:
Elohyek-What's the Use?
Elohyek are travellers, but through the waves of sound. Many artists say they break genres, but pick ones that have blood bond. This band is different, because they never set out to be. Choosing genres that one wouldn’t think of putting together, they create delicious cocktails of cotton candy and rust. Industrial rock marries Trip-Hop. What’s the Use? Is their latest single. In many ways, the beat reminds me of Dave Grohl’s single with Trent Reznor and Josh Homme. Reznor has the ability to mould the texture to a cinematic reprise if desired. Elohyek use an alteration of the Mantra like beat to create a dreamy verse section. Riding on the clip-clopping hooves of the drum, the vocals are spaced out, yet in psychedelic shards. It reflects vocal patches of Tame Impala, or maybe even Babe Ruth or the Psychic Ills. Drawing you in, you’re restricted to this box till the opening comes. What an opening it is. The contrast of the gentle guitars to the overdrive kicking in is the life source songs like this need. It is an empirical sense of agency to a song like this, creating a thumping audio drama that is in parts industrial, parts alt-rock. Receding into the bassline, you feel like you’ve been shown a chapter from a secret book. It is a revelatory sound that they have discovered, and they are rightfully proud of it. The Hitcher and Wanted are two movies that would have executed this in their scene with perfection. You can check out their elegance in execution with Phantom Limbs, their 2022 album. Their upcoming EP, Evergreen Motel, might tread on new paths. Listen to their immersive track and follow them for their EP release!
Love Ghost-Jealousy
Love Ghost could be considered the reincarnation of Gen Z’s Linkin Park. Using relevant themes, superbly engaged atmospheres and styles, they make music for the troubled soul. By expressing their own hardships and thoughts within their well written lyrics, they have garnered a large following in the past few years. This is their latest single, Jealousy. With a soft, slow chord progression-the emotional disparity is clear. The vocals are raw, vulnerable and real. It is a moment of doubt, ID and jealousy expressed over some crystalline arrangements and lyrics. The sound they hit for the chorus is explosive, Love Ghost bringing the alt-rock, nu-metal genre they love so much. Pioneering it to push a change forward to fans, it is evident they have to tap into some emotional damage and uncertainty in the light of the same. From hip-hop to the hard rock strains they use, Jealousy brings an emo rock pull, especially for the bridge. There is no telling what limited direction Love Ghost will take-each void the compass points to has an answer. Their will to put forth a spotlight on their desensitized selves resonates multifold with all their listeners. If this is your first time listening to them, it isn’t the last. A song like this would be great in Jennifer’s Body (2009), which has been seasoned with Cobra Starship and All Time Low as well. Love Ghost have become a regular in many rock and hip-hop playlists for their refreshing take on emotions and their repercussions. Follow them and listen to more on their Spotify!
heavy on the heart-Mr. Know It All
No one quite brings lyrical charisma like heavy on the heart. Their lyrics are like the internal workings of a mind misunderstood. The four-piece alt-rock band from Long Island, NY bring their epicenter for the ripples that are to follow. Very soon, I’m sure. This is their debut single, Mr. Know It All. Everyone knows one of these guys in their life. They are an obnoxious kind, almost gaslighting you into submission from feelings and instinct. Sadly, that happens to be me in my life. Jokes aside, heavy on the heart kick it into 5th gear immediately with their song. Their lyrics bring the goodness and fantastic paint palette of the 90s alt-rock scene, bands like Sum-41ringing through their bones. If they grew up with that music, you better bet they’d honour it. Tight and composed to the harmonics, they make a catchy single that will be their stadium chant very soon. The tones and rhythms have been mastered to perfection, I have never heard engineering like this for a debut single. Imagine the power they bring and are going to harness for future releases. To understand their music is to look at a younger version of yourself, when all feelings were spontaneous. My mind immediately went to (500) Days of Summer (2009). It also aligns with the wave of rock that was sweeping the world, just like heavy on the heart are about to. There is no doubt what they have presented is the beginning of something great. Listen to their single and make sure you follow them for a massive line-up of some catchy music!
Blueburst-Amplify Me
Blueburst is your coveted guitar master-someone who will push the envelope. With his layered approach and catchy songwriting skills, he is always creating something fresh. All you have to do is look in the oven. The sounds that you’d like to loop all evening.Songs that remind you of a feeling. This song is one of them, it’s called Amplify Me. He might be going in a different direction with this, but changes it up quite well. The wall of guitar sound that hits transports you to another realm of tone. The opening riff tells you the simplest will always remain the most memorable. Blueburst features a more polished set of pipes for this song. Creating this magical overlap and backwash, the instrumentals feel like they are swaying. Catchy chorus elements feature the riff embellished with new tones. It cascades like a frothing waterfall-pristine but powerful. It is more than a song, a statement from this phenomenal artist. Songs from this songwriter remind you that all is not lost with live instrument music. If anything, it is being revisited to learn and create something special that people connect with again. Listen to the song on repeat, you’ll find more addictive song layers. I’d love to hear this particular one in the 2008 action film, Jumper. With cool action sequences and an enthralling storyline, this is where Blueburst creates sonic magic. Listen to his songs-Vanish, Train in Vain are my favourites. You’ll also find him featured on many playlists, so be sure to follow him!
