X-RL7 - Antipop Star
Antipop star by X-RL7 combines elements of both rock and synth pop music to bring to life the story that is being told. Futuristic and interesting off the bat, this song manages to switch genres almost instantly at the drop. Then it immediately turns back to the rock genre with which it had begun. This can be very unusual to see in songs and difficult to pull off. However, this song does it with ease and finesse. The song begins by jarring you into paying attention. The synth element in the verses emphasises the pop part of the song. And the drumbeat just before the drop adds a bit of tension to it overall, really making us appreciate the moment when we get to it. The drop does exactly what it needs to do, bringing the satisfaction and release that attracts people to synth pop. This song lets us imagine ourselves in a futuristic, cyberpunk setting. There is a tinge of nostalgia, especially during the pre-chorus and chorus sections, making it very cinematic. I imagined this to be the opening credits to a cyberpunk animation, which is exactly what the artist intended, as this is part of their animated web series project. Antipop Star is a song that will appeal to people who appreciate futuristic synth pop and rock. Even though X-RL7 is more versed in making rock music and is known for it, the artist does not shy away from new ideas and opportunities. This diversity in sound makes X-RL7 an act to keep an eye out for. And I, for one, am eagerly waiting for their next release to see how the story progresses.
