Proklaim - Mimosa
The latest drop by Proklaim, Mimosa, is straight fire, blending that old-school rap vibe with a fresh, modern hip-hop twist. From the jump, you can feel the influence of the legends — Tupac, Nas, and Biggie’s spirit echo throughout, but Proklaim still keeps it 100% him. The beat’s got that classic boom-bap rhythm, but layered with some tight 808s and crisp snares. His smooth lyrical flow rides effortlessly over the beat, making each verse hit hard while keeping it laid-back, like sippin’ on a chilled mimosa. The production here is no joke either. The track’s stereo field is carefully crafted, with elements bouncing from left to right, creating an immersive sound experience. You feel like you’re sitting in the middle of a cipher, catching every word and every hi-hat like they’re aimed right at you. The way the beat dips in and out, with the perfect balance of low-end thump and high-end clarity, is something the indie music scene should take notes on. You could easily picture Mimosa fitting into the action-packed world of Blade or even the fantasy wildness of Guardians of the Galaxy, giving those scenes some real street grit and heat. Proklaim came up in Namibia after college, grindin’ and putting in work to make a name in the rap game. His sound pays homage to the greats, but his pen game and his energy keep him moving forward. Mimosa is proof he’s reppin’ his influences while still pushin’ boundaries. He’s got the hunger, and it’s just a matter of time before the world catches on. A special mention must be made of the album artwork that depicts a futuristic sorcerer and compliments the artist's musical vision with finesse. It is perhaps a cross between Altair and Dr.Strange, who knows, perhaps we have a superhero in our midst?
