Molly Baker - June 28th
Molly Baker gives us the most picturesque heartbreak in song form with her latest release June 28th so hold your hearts. Molly comes in with the girl next door attitude that captures your heart already. Most of her work is very reminiscent of Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. She seems to have a feathered golden pen Her writing is sharp, making her lyrics harsher than paper cuts. But as and when you feel the effect of her words, you tend to get lost in the softness of her vocals. The track allows you to feel as though you are parked in a snow globe. Owed to the sweetness of the piano and before you know it, cracks begin to form on the globe. She sings of a relationship that is over and gone. She sings of an experience/ instinct that is so universal to text your ex on a crucial day. Molly has this wonderful ability to give us such rich imagery through her words and her voice. She does this through the many kinds of audio layering that amp up the intensity of the song. Molly brings to the table this dreamy quality of production that quickly and swiftly has us in her world. A similar texture of production is present in The Politician, the way they weave themes and ideas in this series deserves a thesis paper of its own and June 28th deserves a spot in this series. Molly Baker has an ease with her pen that cuts through foggy memories and fills our senses with her brilliant music. You can get lost in her work through the links attached above.
