Maureen Toth - Chiaroscuro

Maureen Toth dances in the fields with the spirits of the earth with her latest album release- Chiaroscuro. She has given us an interesting lineup of singles within the track. . Every track has the essence of folk and pop. She has done an immensely great job at mixing genres in this track which makes this album a spring full of life and emotions. Maureen has an incredible sense of sound as the arrangement on the track is immaculate. Hats off to the production team. Maureen notes that flutter in and out like a butterfly, for a moment you become a butterfly yourself.  Liars and Maureen Toth The opening song for the track is Liars. Everything about this song is a steady galloping in the winds. The track makes you feel like you’re moving extremely fast in life. You feel every word she says as if it were the wind hitting your face as you run in the fields. What makes the track a wild one is the mixture of earthy-sounding guitar patterns, mixed with percussion. ConTe One of the songs on the album is ConTe. It’s almost like she breaks us from this trance, every time the chorus comes on. She sings of love and the bitterness that comes with it. It is followed by Owl which follows the same themes. The slow drumming has us feeling her sense of loss and urgency. My god there is so much flavor and this sense of trying to break free. She holds us with her as she sings “Where Did my country go? I don’t know!” again and again.  Don't Go Near The Water Maureen has an interesting way of delivering her vocals and it is with an Irish curve in most of her songs. This adds a layer of earthiness to her songs. But with Don’t Go Near The Water, we really enter a slow wavy pop. Campfire Pop, if I may. You can hear a story being told around a campfire with this track. From all her songs, it is so clear that Maureen has a great sense of storytelling and she uses every beat, pause and breath as a tool for drama.  This track would fit like the shimmeriest and most perfect piece of glove in Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. The track has everything- adventure, conflict, drama and a sense of thrill. She is clearly singing about serious topics but never once did she lose us. Maureen Toth has created the perfect song for us to run through the forest as we reach the mountain edge to scream out or even just plain old stare out into the distance on the edge. I highly advise that you give yourself a good dosage of Maureen as her music is medicine to the soul. So, go on, follow the links above and get ready to be mind-blown.
