V.E.N! - The Beauty Of Danger
Seville-based artist Edu Campoy Molinero recently released his latest EP "The Beauty of Danger" under his project V.E.N! (Virtual Emotions Network). The EP is an amalgamation of jangly guitars, energetic drumming, soulful vocals and indie-rock colours. It's moody, bittersweet, and sounds like something the main character would sing to his lover in a high-school rom-com. “Cloud of Bliss” kicks off the EP with twangy guitars that feel a bit woozy at first, but snap into something a lot more melodic. The track is melancholic and full of tension but comes in with a jolt of energy that leaves you feeling hopeful. it is quite a treat for the ears, for sure “...Now” unravels the full colors of the EP. Bright, jolly guitars form the foundation of the track and the ecstatic feeling it brings about keeps lingering. The hook is sticky, and soft vocal harmonies and subtle organ textures add more colours to the sonic palette. “The Silence of God” is moody, darker and gives the EP more personality. The guitars are drenched with a colder tone and Edu's vocals are dramatic. Lyrically, it digs into the dilemmas of faith without sounding too philosophical also. "Co-living, Polyamory & E-Scooter" gives off a very Green Day vibe. The song is energetic and paints the picture of a contemporary urban culture and modern dating. The last track of the EP “Walk on Fire” has an expansive sound. The medley of guitar and synths brings about a certain Britpop vibe. The lyrics zoom in on intimacy as a kind of escape from chaos. "The Beauty of Danger" is quite versatile in its soundscape. You hear bits and pieces of 60s pop, indie rock, and pop punk but everything comes together easily and nothing feels forced. This EP could very well fit into a movie like Scott Pilgrim Vs The World.
