Crooked Cranes - This is Only a Test

If you're searching for vibrant and a variety of music within the same album, then Crooked Cranes is the band for you. They released their debut album – This is Only a Test. The band is a trio of best friends that decided to venture into the music world together. The chemistry is truly what sets them apart. Their music feels like the song writing process must’ve been a joyride because of the energy each and every song holds. Crooked Cranes and GF The band's opening song, GF, is a powerful opener that embodies the essence of rock and metal from the very beginning. It starts off with an almost growl of a guitar section. The track is literally about a girlfriend. You see the shades of their music shift immediately in the next song – Mehico. Over here, we see them play around with rock and country. The guitar has that unique country twang with the way it pushes the song forward. The vocals on the track are honestly an aspect that keeps you listening; unapologetic and carefree. The performance and confidence shine through! Dolfin The track is another experimental number that carries with it an entirely different atmosphere. Dolfin has a different language of strings in this number, more folkish and Asian as compared to the last three songs that precede it. The track is more laid-back and has a personality that can entertain and command a room. The band is rock at heart but has its chefs hat on when it comes to experimentation, and in this track, the ingredients are crisp, distinct strings as compared to a compound and more intricate group of sounds in the rest of the album. Met a Girl Met a Girl is the longest song in the album. The band has aced the storytelling, and they have a whole theatre in this number; from the backing sounds to the delivery, the drama peaks here in this song. The number dances across the stage effortlessly as they bend music to their will with their electrifying chemistry. They cool down the temperature after that high-powered storytelling; we have the last song, NeWay. The track is a cool blue pop-rock number with a groove that makes you forget the world. After listening to all the songs on the album, the thing that stands out the most is the production quality. Owing to the variety of songs they have produced makes it very clear that each of them wore many hats as they produced their first baby with sweat and blood. An album such as this can fit into a variety of numbers, but Mehico particularly can fit into a montage sequence in Marvellous Mrs Maisel. The complex storytelling paired with a kicker of variety is what defines Crooked Cranes and their energy. You can click on the links attached above and see for yourself.
