S J Denney- High Flying Birds
4 h : 10 min

S J Denney is a UK-based singer and songwriter who centres his work around alternative folk-rock. He started his journey as a Church Boy who played the Clarinet. S J naturally gravitated toward Rock music, which significantly influence his work. You can see how much he values the classic with his Elton John-like texture in High Flying Birds S J Denney’s latest release- High Flying Birds follows Wishful Thinking, another single. S J plays with perspective remarkably well in his music. We see this In High Flying Birds too, from the perspective of melody, it feels jolly. Especially with the way the song blooms in the beginning with the strings, the tangerine and the piano. The instruments' tone, the gospel-like layering, and the choir cushion you into safety. But with soul-touching lyrics such as“I don’t need your sympathy. it just reminds me that I’m all alone in a world of my own.” it leaves you lonely. He related more to birds than humans. The way the orchestra engulf’s you with its beauty is like a wave welcomed in an ocean. This quality truly sets it apart.  Into The Wild by Sean Penn is a masterpiece of a film. With the film’s aesthetically detailed camera work and cinematography, it has you hooked from the start. The film centres around a young man who gives up everything to hitch-hike to Alaska alone. The entire film consists of him helping himself and others to figure things out about life. High Flying Birds’ quality of yearning makes it custom-made for the film. You can imagine the song play as he sits and drives an immovable trailer. S J Denney does a beautiful job of neatly wrapping up a complex piece of art to be devoured by an audience, leaving you wanting more. You must follow him on his socials to see other such genius songwriting.

Meghan Pulles- Coming Home
4 h : 15 min

Meghan Pulles feels like a forest fairy drawing you in with her saccharine voice in Coming Home. The single is a collaboration with Eric Bay. It exudes an earthly quality owed to her making literal connections to a motherland. The Neo Folk singer is one of a kind with her storytelling expertise enamouring you in with just her vocals and her words.  The song has an old school texture to it, very reminiscent of Edelweiss from “Sound of Music”. It is also a sweet Ode to their motherland. Meghan sings “Coming home, to a land that time forgot, I’m saving lives, from a world that is not.” The song is the embodiment of patriotic sentiment. It also feels intimate with minimal instrumentals, using just their voices and the words to push the song forward. All this also really drives home just how personal the idea of patriotism is to them. The soulful delivery sets a sense of urgency and authenticity, making it an unforgettable listen.  The dreamlike quality of the song that is rooted in real world conflict is a storytelling technique used through the years. Alice in Wonderland also uses similar themes of patriotism with brilliant cinematography and greenscreen. Not to mention, it is a star studded cast who deliver through and through. You can hear Coming Home as Alice realizes that her job here in Wonderland is done and it's time to go home. Meghan Pulles has created a timeless contemporary that deeply resonates with the very fabric of the nation with top notch productions. 25 h : 25 min

Gunslingers has released her much-anticipated EP Green Acres Motel. Imagine Hotel California but country with a thriving guitar base. She plays with music as though it were a kite flying high and it swishes gracefully up in the sky. Gunslingers showcases her talent for creating a warm and inviting country-infused folk music that immerses the listeners. She plays with soft country sounds that have you riding the waves of tranquillity while also creating a contemplative atmosphere. The six-track EP takes us on a journey through various themes, including nostalgia, heartbreak and the fragility of life. Her sweet and tender voice is layered over atmospheric and sparse production. It creates a captivating sound that demands the listener’s attention.  How To Sleep by Gunslingers Green Acres Motel is a testament to Gunslingers’ ability to channel her personal experiences into her music. Her unique sound is a blend of folk and Americana, with a touch of experimental elements that set her apart from her contemporaries. The album starts off with How To Sleep a song that deals with dark themes. It oozes distress but Gunslingers does a great job of not pushing that distress onto her listeners through her writing and music. She creates a safe distance between aspects that would inflict distress upon her listeners. Gloryland In Step Up, the track conjures up memories of a special someone, and it finally finishes off with Gloryland, an experimental track that features the sounds of traffic, buses, horns etc. We see this hinted at in her album where she will keep certain throat clearing and inhaling before a stanza. Her attention to detail is evident in every track, from the melancholic and nostalgic melodies of Winking to the heartache of Old Friend. Green Acres Motel is a great example of expert storytelling, there is a meticulous placement of songs in a certain order because it’s supposed to take you on a certain kind of journey. The songs are very reminiscent of the story arch in Eat, Pray, Love. Elizabeth Gilbert (Julia Roberts) encounters many kinds of love and lovers much like in the album. Every song can fit into the film and it would only enhance the experience.  The EP is a testament to Gunslingers’ Talent. She enamours her listeners with every strum of the strings. The album is layered abundantly with a wide variety of textures of sound. While it doesn’t adhere to the stereotypical standards of a “clean production” it most definitely doesn’t fall short of craft and deliberate world-building. These are things that can only be done by a true artist. I can’t wait to see what Gunslingers will create next. You can follow her too on the links attached below.

The Bastard Bird A song that particularly shines through is The Bastard Bird. the song begins with a prolonged opening instrumental that feels gives off a futuristic sense. Ryan Yingst - Please Don't Burn The Sage
3 h : 54 min

Please Don’t Burn The Sage sets your senses on fire with an irresistible set of notes that's bound to get your heart grooving. Ryan Yingst picked up his guitar and checked off creating history off of his list with Please Don’t Burn The Sage. This latest release is a lovely rendition and dedication of love to his partner. He paints an adorable picture that leaves you yearning for this quality of tender love.  The instrumentals consist of just the guitar, making the performance feel like an intimate one. The song is about Ryan’s demand to not have his partner light the sage once he passes away. This is because he wants to be able to one day haunt their house together with his partner. While the song is just him and the guitar, the song is rich with technique. Therefore I tip my hat to the production team for peppering the song with this much detail. The thread of storytelling that runs seamlessly throughout the fabric of the song creates for a great tapestry of storytelling. The perfect film that would work beautifully with the song is Ghosts of Girlfriends Past. Both the film and the song speaks of ghosts and girlfriends, Don’t Burn The Sage would work wonders in the film when he actually finds love. The song is one of a kind. It’s no wonder that Ryan Yingst already has over 30,000 plays on multiple songs. Let us support him the same way for this release as well, you can follow the link attached below.

In a sonic landscape that is filled with pop, rock and other genres that barely touch the surface of emotions, Derek Lee Goodreid dares to dig deeper with Underdog, his latest release. He gives us an infectious and endearing blend of country, folk and Rock in this gem. The underdog energy is alive, thriving and appreciated in this one. He has successfully encapsulated the spirit of overcoming hardships and difficulties throughout the single. The track is simple, it bubbles into existence with country percussion and strings. Derek comes strutting in with his cool-as-a-cucumber vocals. The lyrics though are not as laid back, it hits you when you least expect it. “Takes a lot of grit to rise to the top Hard Work beats talent every time Well I've been hit I've been spat upon Told I was nothing I am an underdog.” If you heard that, you would relate too. Underdog celebrates the strength and the tenacity it takes to rise against all odds. The gritty edge that Derek’s voice gives is irreplaceable. Also, a special shout out to the dogs in the videos that stand in complete contradiction to the texture of the song. All this imagery and production-perfection brings back images of Bolt.
