Concetta Abbate-LAMINARIA

There is a strange energy that flows around you when you listen to Concetta Abbate & The Concetta Ensemble. In creating a fabricated world for you, the masters of the art actually drown in the theme themselves. What you get is a result of witnessing something similar to method acting. This one is called LAMINARIA. In all its essence, it is some of the most textural work they have put across.  The ensemble is a creative mammoth. Concetta Abbate is a vocal powerhouse. It is listening to opera with a certain dramatic theme set in mind. Instrumentals are powerful ambiences, that become the bed of notes that vocals can glide over. They accent, reduce and play dynamics with the instrumentals in ways that cannot be explained. In songs like Salted Shroud, this can be seen being executed expertly. The tones settle across beautifully, even though they might be experienced as haunting at times. In this theme, they flourish. Concetta Abbate is at their best tonally and vocally, using the vocal dynamics to bring the desired effect.  A jazzy progression can be heard in songs like Alkali Halo. As there is a narrative in place, the layering becomes an important aspect to experience. Each instrument takes its own protagonist role, as the vocals run as the master narrator. It is an incredible thing to experience aurally, as these musicians master the moments before presenting them to us.  Through music, there are journeys More dramatic sheets unfold in songs like The Search. Concetta Abbate & The Concetta Ensemble become one powerful entity to make scenes of mystery, despair and horror. All through this, you’re left to your own imagination, as there are no words. In this abyss you seem to be lost in, the ensemble thrives to make some of the most fantastic sequences you might hear. Still, there is great contrast in tracks like Water into Light that become amazing intermediaries in the melodies.  Unique percussion parts and innovative sound explorations make this album a fantastic journey to go through. It is the efforts of  Concetta Abbate & The Concetta Ensemble to design music that affects us so much, while saying absolutely nothing. It is the magnificent power of music, and how melody is crowned queen.  This album would be amazing in Insidious: The Red Door (2023), for the amazing sequences it creates. The horror theme comes along very well here, and the ensemble has done a pristine job in conducting this music. From the 2020 album Mirror Touch, this album takes a contrasting direction and makes something worth absorbing through its time. Check out the album above and give the collective some love by following them on Spotify and their socials. For the shivers and the lip quivers, here is LAMINARIA, for your consideration!
