Clare Easdown - In Candlelight

In Candlelight is the perfect example of how Clare Easdown can reach in and shake the very foundation of your soul. If I were to ascribe a genre to her music, it would be “shelter from the storm”, but we have to settle for experimental synth and a hint of folk. The Sydney-based singer-songwriter began by playing the classical cello. From there, she went ahead and got herself educated in music and has been off on a journey of her own, weaving together a galaxy of sounds to guide us through the storm.  Clare has always had a fluid language to her music. She herself proclaims that she takes inspiration from the sea, and In Candlelight is no different. The track has a dreamlike beginning where she muddies the lines of what is perceived reality and what is imagined through the instrumentals. Clare hits the floor running by the time we hear the drums pick up. She folds in confident and decisive resolution in her voice. When she sings of how cradles rock with fractured dreams, it feels as though she is deconstructing the idea of freedom. Were we ever free to begin with? The track brings forth strong imagery. It would work like the last piece of the puzzle in a series like The Haunting of Hill House. Especially because the series also blurs the line between reality, the otherworldly and the concept of time. In Candlelight is a track that will swirl up storms and break down walls with Clare Easdown’s magic. You can find more of her work in the link attached above.
