Thy Veils- Upstream
4 h : 29 min

Thy Veils is a rotating Romanian musical Ensemble plus Daniel Dobobantu. They released their latest single Upstream. It is an eclectic blend of synth and trumpet that will have you in a state of trance. The band is particular about creating an experience for its listeners and audience at their live shows.  The track begins with a siren-like call from the Trumpet that beacons you to lend your ear. The song has a Mediterranean touch, owing to the blend of percussion sprinkled with the chiming from the tambourine. Upstream evokes a canvas full of vivid colours and images. Upstream feels like you are in a boat floating on a Bioluminescent lake, below the stars, in a tranquil state of mind. There is still a touch of turmoil within this song owing to the drum beats, adding a sense of seriousness to it.  A film that plays with calmness in moments of sheer chaos and danger is Lucy. For a layman’s eye, it feels as though Johanson is calm, but if you look close enough, she plays with a plethora of emotions. Upstream feels like the camphor the film needs for it to shine brighter. It would do so well in adding to the nuance within a scene, especially at the climax when we are just about to lose Lucy. Thy Veils draws from the elements that surround us to create a tangible listening experience. You can see this in nearly every song. Their sense of spirituality keeps up with modern-day musical sensibilities which is a refreshing concept.

Gallowayyys- Angels With Fangs, PT. 1
8 h

Gallowayyys has done it again with his fresh release- Angels With Fangs Pt.1. It is an impressive Indie Techno pop album that features a seamless dynamic blend of textures. The track ranges from techno to rock. The album is a bite-sized one that leaves you wanting more. It consists of three tracks- Dye It Red, Pink Lemonade and Sticky Fingers. The tracks really do a great job of parading Gallowayyys' versatility and skill. Dye It Red and Gallowayyys Dye It Red is a high-energy number and it manages this while being low-key. The driving beats and pulsing synths create a beat that you can’t help grooving to. As the song starts this way, it peaks as he starts rapping. The song feels like a haze. It comes, taking you into a disco-lit world, urging you to break free and let the beats take over.  Pink Lemonade Pink Lemonade is pure vibes. The tracks comes in barrelling you with its beats, daring you to not groove. The shimmering synths is reminiscent of the video game era. You have to peer your ear to get a hold of the lyrics and this is a theme we see throughout the album. You must let the storm that is the album take you in and dance at the centre of the hurricane. To say that the beats are hypnotics is saying the least.  Sticky Fingers Sticky Fingers is a slow-build track compared to the other two tracks. It’s a lot more paced out. What is interesting to note in all his tracks is that the beats and his vocals are in power. There is this sense of surrendering yourself to the music and allowing it to make you feel what it does. This number leaves you in a trance state of mind almost as if you are dancing as you meditate.  Emily in Paris is one of those TV shows that leaves you loving it or hating it. But what neither can argue with is the shows excellent take of fashion, it is set in Paris of course. Of course, the playlist of the show is a lot more girl pop but it could really use some Avante Garde expression as well. I can imagine Gallowayyys playing in the background as Emily takes a few risquè decisions which she will pay for later. Much like the show, Gallowayyys tracks urges you to live in the here and now as it shakes you into reality.  The album is only eight minutes long but is also only Part 1. This gets you all perked up for the next album. We want to know whether it’s going to be the same or it’s going to do a 180 on us and serve us something completely different. All in all, Gallowayyys trumpets the beginning of the Renaissance of music and he does it with panache.

Chip Pirrs- Tønder
3 h : 40 min

Tønder by Chip Pirrs is an ethereal pop ballad that speaks of wanting a relationship to work. Its is a single he released last year that still captures hearts with its moving melody. Its haunting vocal blends with its atmospheric instrumentals elevating the listening experience to another level entirely. The song takes its listeners on a journey with its lush production and dreamlike soundscape. This creates a layered, textures and immersive experience for us listeners.  The song begins with an upbeat synth beat and Chip’s voice enters the scene bringing in the melancholy. The track simmers up as the beat picks up and there is an incohesive nature to the beats briefly. This is paired with the lyric “I knew this wouldn’t last the very first day. Could’ve avoided this crash the very first day.”. It is a genius poetic introspection by Chip Pirrs. The last bit where the percussion soars into existence really ties the song in altogether. As is if he is a soldier ready for battle and ready to win back his love.  Jumping the Broom is a film that speaks of love in many forms- parental love, platonic love and romantic love. It is a wedding film and obviously does a brilliant job at representing all the chaos that occurs in a wedding house. The film has a brilliant playlist and Tønder would only add immense value to it. We can imagine this song playing as Sabrina realises who her real mother is and in turn Geneva wanting to rebuild that relationship.  The production in this soundtrack is slick, with every element working in perfect harmony to create the perfect sonic experience. You must catch more work by Chip Pirrs.

Segana- Fever Dreams
3 h : 2 min

Fever Dreams demands that you buckle up for an enthralling car chase of a song by Segana. Segana has layered this song with a variety of textures making this number a real roller coaster. The song evokes an array of images leaving the listeners with numerous interpretations. Fever Dreams elicits a sense of urgency almost as though you are in a car chase and you can’t seem to get away from your chaser. The song feels like a forest itself, creating a lush and full soundscape with its many variety of synthesized beats. The lyrics speak of villains everywhere. Lyrics such as“ Still alive but I can’t tell whether I'm in heaven or hell because I left a horror house.” adds to the trance like state. The intense synthesized drums helps your heart rush and feel the beat from your toes to the tip of your tongue. The song fully echoes the human spirit's race away from chaos. The pulsing beat is reminiscent of Miss Bala, an action packed film that has twists at every turn. Fever Dreams is both the perfect emotion and song for the film. It embodies Gloria’s survival mode headspace as she tries to rescue herself and her friend. Both the film's and the song's production is magnificent. Fever Dreams has some of the best layering where you have to decide which one to pay attention to, the lyrics or the beats as they are mixed to perfection. Fever Dreams relentless and infectious energy is a testament to Segana’s talent. You can see their chemistry shine in this song. You must check out their spotify as they have some heavy plans to keep us engaged this year. I for one am excited.

Luke Frees- Strings
3 h : 51 min

Luke Frees has made a devastatingly beautiful number- Strings and it’s sure to transport you to a sepia tinted world. The captivatingly dynamic single draws influence from classics like Jeff Buckley and Nina Simone. It clearly shows as well but Frees went, “Let's add a little bit of spice” and mixed in a little bit of Bowie as well.” The song is eager to welcome you in as we immediately jump into the guitar riffs that’s bound to hold your attention. While Luke’s voice shines immaculately against the lush instrumentals, what took the cake was the excellent Saxophone playing. Frees’ songwriting is top notch, with poignant lyrics that speak to his personal struggles and creative breakthrough. Luke Frees experienced all this while writing this number. “Some cheap entertainment, for the price of honesty” the lyrics clearly speaks of a relationship that ended bitterly. But he is speaking from a new found perspective where he realises that it was in fact a toxic relationship and they no longer mourn it. While she has already taken inspiration from Twin Peaks, I also believe that this number would fit perfectly well in Ratchet as well. It would especially sit well within the relationship between nurse Ratchet and her little brother. The song fits in between most leading characters. Overall, "Strings" is an impressive rock single that showcases Frees' talent as both a songwriter and performer. With its catchy melody, intricate instrumentation, and heartfelt lyrics, it's a must-listen for fans of classic rock and modern indie music alike.

The way her voice effortlessly weaves through the layers of the track is nothing short of magical. This is the best concoction for a lyrical masterpiece. Each word is delivered with such emotional sincerity that it becomes impossible not to be captivated by her performance. As I was hearing this number, all that came to my head was Lily Iglehart from Sex Education. Our very own space hero deserves a title track for her character and Stars might as well be hers because both the song and the actors share the same personalities. Angel Gray - Pink Lemonade
5 h : 31 min

Angel Gray gave the world Pink Lemonade and ever since, we are left floating in this cotton candy cloud of a song. This effortlessly delectable track is a synth-pop concoction. The fact that a pop song is 5 minutes and over is surprising in the current music market. Especially because of the fact that you don’t notice that the track is actually 5 minutes. When I tell you that Gray delivers with her angelic voice, I am not kidding. The track is extremely gentle and it is affirmed the minute the first note hits your eardrum. The track gives you a taste of the pain and loss of a relationship. This pain is specially delivered with irresistible energy by Angel Gray. There is a luscious soundscape in the track thanks to the stellar production. The track has a pulsating rhythm with a shimmering bass-line that floats under Angel’s voice. While the backing of the song is cool, Gray brings in a tonne of warmth through her vocals. A great juxtaposition of warm and cool. This track manages to hit the sweet spot when it comes to balance as it deals with a heavy topic while the track exudes ease and lightness. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before is the perfect example of this as well. It takes heavy topics but considering that we view all this through the lens of teenage love, it suddenly becomes easier and palatable. Pink Lemonade would work wonderfully in this film.
