Sharine - January Eleven

Reading your favourite classic on a late Sunday evening, in the deep chills of winter. Red finger tips, red nose, a shawl serving you heat with a vision. A track plays in the back: January Eleven by Sharine.  This is what they call experiential listening. A contemporary classical track teamed with a theme that doesn't just follow a story, but rather becomes one. It is the type of score one would stumble across, time and again, on dark academia curated reading playlists on YouTube. A subtle, soothing piano that brings with it a gothic undertone, very apt for a seasonal read/study session.  It begins at a slumberous pace and keeps up with it all throughout. It works best at evoking a feeling of melancholy that lingers in that background with every press of the key. The sole piano lulls you to a world unknown and keeps the vision of that universe alive.  The name of the track is inspired by the date it was drafted on: January 11, 2025, when wildfires near Los Angeles ate the greens. It aims at capturing the emotional contrast between crisis and finding comfort, reinforcing the melancholic undertones. The piece flows with a gentle, contemplative melody. It is likely built on a minor key with hints of resolution to reflect hope. The chord progressions shift subtly to balance tension and uplift. The tempo is moderate-slow, giving listeners time to absorb the emotion.  The song would be an excellent fit for an academia-centered movie like Kill Your Darlings (2013). The piece hovers between melancholy and hope, echoing the film’s undercurrent of conflicted emotion.
