Rebecca Anderson - Lay It All Down
Rebecca Anderson has me hooked from the beginning with her latest single, Lay It All Down. It is beautifully soulful and evocative from the get-go. Neo-soul is one of my favourite genres of music, and this is a great example of why. This song touches a deep part of your self like every good soul music with that electronic touch of the modern. Lay It All Down begins like we're underwater. It feels like we're floating, serenely, like an out-of-body experience. Until the beat drops and brings us back into our body, make sure you pay attention. The instrumentation is very interesting and takes a while to make sure that it is established before we hear the vocals. The groove is sublime—you cannot help but move to it, which is my favourite thing about contemporary R&B music. Immediately as Rebecca starts singing, you know the vocals on this record are going to be immaculate. With her soulful voice, she moulds the track to become exactly what she needs it to be. She makes everything sound effortless. The harmonies are so flawlessly arranged and are definitely the highlight of this track for me. It makes me want to hear different arrangements of this live. Hearing this live in a small setting would definitely bring tears to my eyes because of how beautiful it would be. How beautiful it is. Rebecca Anderson uses her faith to bring this track to life, and it succeeds in becoming a deeply touching and uplifting track, as she intended. This is a meticulously crafted track that is overflowing with her soul and her spirit.
