Mick J. Clark - It's Getting Near Christmas

When does Christmas really begin? Is it the morning of December 25th, or the moment the anticipation becomes impossible to contain? Mick J. Clark’s It’s Getting Near Christmas finds its answer in the days leading up to the celebration. It is a song about the excitement before the occasion itself: the decorations going up, presents being wrapped, familiar melodies returning, and the small rituals that gradually turn an ordinary December into something worth looking forward to. With the production, Clark leans into the cheerful familiarity of classic Christmas pop, giving the track a soft-rock foundation with a distinctly festive personality. Piano and guitar establish the warmth, while the bass line and rhythm section keep things moving. Chimes and sleigh bells provide the seasonal punctuation, and sparkling synth textures add a little extra colour without overwhelming the arrangement.  What makes the song particularly appealing is its uncomplicated affection for the season. Christmas music can sometimes become so invested in manufacturing magic that it forgets the ordinary experiences that make the holiday meaningful. Clark does the opposite. His songwriting finds its charm in recognisable details, allowing the excitement of preparation to become part of the celebration itself. There is also a romantic dimension to the song, with images of mistletoe kisses and fireside closeness reminding us that the season is as much about intimacy as it is about festivities.  Clark's warm vocal delivery suits this approach. The repeated titular phrase becomes an infectious countdown, capturing that particular childhood-like excitement of knowing something wonderful is just around the corner. The song is a good fit for a movie like The Holiday (2006).
