Omar Pierce - Better Be Lucky
Better Be Lucky is a masterclass in how to do pop music, showing us that this is why the formula exists. The song uses all the elements that can make it catchy, like the chanting at the end, changing up the beat during the chorus to a different time signature, etc. It does things that have been tried before but does them exceptionally well. Omar Pierce keeps the seemingly predictable song new and exciting. The track immediately felt like a great night drive song to me, perfect for when there's barely anyone out so late. Omar's voice flows over the exceptionally well-done production like velvet. The vocal melodies and harmonies are beautiful and sensual and make the song easy to listen to, though never boring. I really liked how the vocals began, the yearning clear from the get-go. I personally feel like yearning is always a great emotion to express through your vocals. The impact of that particular emotion is always something I look forward to. It feels deep, raw, and specific, and sometimes the depth of it feels indescribable. The lyrics talk about the push and pull of a failing relationship being held together by just the sexual. And Omar does a great job of bringing the lyrics to life with his voice. Omar Pierce has figured out how to do pop right. His voice is perfect for the R&B niche that he has carved out for himself. This song is an earworm from start to finish, and I am ready for whatever he comes up with next.
