Formoe – Always B-Side is a cinematic sonic journey through Heartache and Healing Norwegian artist Formoe displays a masterclass in deconstructing an already excellent track into distinct avatars while keeping its emotion-filled beating heart alive! 'Always B-Side' presents three versions, the original, and two instrumentals, one with the addition of a choir section. Each track does brillianty to hold its own, showcasing Formoe's versitility and artistic vision. The orginal 'Always', released in 2023, is an expansive, emotional retro pop fusion opus that covers meloncholic themes with soulful vocals, bright synths and crisp beats. Fans of alt-pop will instantly feel a familiarity with this sound and will pleasantly surprised to learn that it been co-produced by Roar Farstad and Alf-Emil Eik(who worked with A-ha & Secret Garden). A standout aspect of this track is the vocals from June Baltzersen, who brings a fantastic theatrical gravitas. Owing to her extensive acting background. Her voice succintly captures the loneliness and quiet devastation that comes after a breakup. The chorus brings a sweeping change in her harmonies, her voice oscillating brilliantly from highs to lows. Its a gripping, captivating performance that hold the listener's attention raptously. Lyrically, its poignant in its use of simple language to express something profound. This allows for a deeper relatability with the themes expressed. In the words of Formoe himself, "This track is about the emptiness, sorrow, and longing one can feel when something ends,". This sentiment is subtly reflected in every word & note. But the overarching bright melodies and progressive rhythms keep the tone hopeful and pure, like the first rays of light after a long dark night. Moving on the instrumental version only serves to bring Formoe's meticulous production into focus. Sans June's vocals, the listener is treated to the full experience of an immersive, layered soundscape. Where the melody itself is able to resonate with a strong emotional core. This is an artist who doesn't shy away from authentic expression of emotional depth through his music. This album would be a very interesting soundtrack choice for the latest high octane, action motorsport drama - F1: The Movie. It would be a match for the immersive cinematographic experience of being a F1 driver racing around at insanely high speeds. Like the roar of those engines, 'Always B-Side' is a gripping, heart-thumping release that remains in your senses long after the last note dissapetes.
