Canning - State of Mind
State of Mind is a dynamic rock number by Canning that manages to somehow be both easy and yet have a sense of gravity to it. The band is a trio that contributes heavily to the rock scene in Chicago. It draws inspiration from it as well. There is an electric sense of novelty every time we listen to a band with exquisite chemistry and you can tell the band has a divine sense of chemistry. Every time they dish out a song they make a whole new grammar to rock. The band has a unique style of rock; they bring in some techno and some disco elements in there as well. The track has some killer vocals, drums, and guitars that are truly unmatched in the music scene out there. All of this is embellished with some chiming sounds that pepper the listening experience pleasantly. There is a novelty to their style of rock. It has a way of appealing to even non-rock lovers because of its techno and disco touch to their music. This youthful and fun touch to rock reminds me of how appealing the School of Rock was. School of Rock was the introduction to rock music to a major chunk of millennials and Gen Z’s. A milestone movie. Canning is out there in the Chicago rock music scene, giving it the texture and versatility it needs. This new-age rock band is one of a-kind, and there are so few like them who are unafraid to really experiment with the genre completely and succeed.
