PROJECT: Beyond - The End

PROJECT: Beyond's new single "The End" sounds like the lovechild of Opeth and Deftones. It's plays through a medley of alt-rock, ambient and melodic hardcore accentuated by the juxtaposition of melodic singing and harsh, unclean vocals. It takes you quite unexpectedly at every note and the unpredictability hits like a drug. The Norwegian duo of Johann Kjørsvik Lothe and Stefan Åsheim have built the track , blending hard rock with indie and blending multiple sonic elements from alt-metal genres and it's quite an interesting mix of sounds. Just when you think you’ve figured out where it is heading, it suddenly takes a turn. Especially at the "end" of "The End" where it goes full melodic hardcore with the ambient elements and harsh growls coming together, gets really crazy. If you dig bands like Deftones, Thornhill, La Dispute and Casey, you'll love them. What makes “The End” work is how naturally these changes happen. The quieter sections accentuate the heavier ones, making the track flow like water with ebbs and tides. The idea behind the track is equally interesting. “The End” explores how nothing really exists on its own. People disappear from our lives, situations change and certain chapters close, but those experiences continue to influence whatever comes next. It's existential but also relatable in many ways.
