Liz Lieber - Play Pretend
Liz Lieber gives us women the perfect background music as we do the most mundane tasks as Play Pretend. It encapsulates womanhood to perfection. She creates a dish that brings out every moment of childhood that was folded and filed away in the crevice of our brain. Liz has this ability to effortlessly glide and cramp in years' worth of experiences in 4 minutes in the most poetic and cinematic way possible. And Play Pretend holds up to her brand and genre of music which falls under excellence. There is an easiness to this dish of nostalgia that she serves us. She perfects the art of serving us some necessary but heartbreaking truth in poem format. And she does this by adding equal parts sass, hope and memories. Adulthood and the transition into adulthood is hard for everyone. But it is a special kind of dull ache to know that you are a functioning person who has this adulting thing down but somewhere in the past you were a carefree individual who used to play pretend in the sand pit. Liz does this so beautifully, to have us reminisce about the past with a sad-ish smile on our faces as we listen to her velvet voice melt our hearts. This track would be perfect in Derry Girls. When I tell you Derry Girls has slowly accumulated a cult following of its own, I mean it. Liz’s song fits into their style of music as well. Liz Lieber has a style of her own and has a distinct aura of music-making. She will no doubt be ruling the Indie Music world with the grace of a butterfly.
