Harry Kappen - The Longing
Glide along to Happy Kappen's latest prog rock masterpiece, 'The Longing'! Heartfelt strums and gentle drums set an introspective tone as Harry's soft, sincere vocals enter, singing, “Never lost the passion, still longing for your love, you're outta sight....” The lyrics dive into a not often explored, but deeply relatable struggle, balancing the intensity & emotionality of aliveness with practicality, analysis, and rationality. How we lead our lives is in constant flux between emotion and reason. “I wanted to capture that tug-of-war we all feel,” Kappen says. “The quiet reflection, the bursting emotions, and how they collide. In the end, my heart usually leads, but never without listening to my head.” Musically, 'The Longing' speaks volumes to Harry's thoughtful, intentional songwriting process. The flows at a comfortable, gliding tempo. Passion-filled violins contrast brilliantly with distortion guitar riffs, crashing drums and ethereal atmospherics. Past the two-minute mark, we're treated to a heavenly, psychedelic guitar solo evoking that timeless, wild rock n roll spirit and then leading back into an elevated, final chorus section. 'The Longing' is a high-quality prog rock track that delights listeners of intelligent, intense yet heartfelt soul music. A potentially great soundtrack for the action drama flick, 'Noboby', starring the talented Bob Odenkirk. It perfectly captures his character's maddeningly violent journey to rediscover himself and what it feels like to be alive while having to also balance his family life, the best he can.
