Genevieve Charbonneau-Symphony of Sorrow
Emotional songs are difficult to execute, given the vulnerability. Genevieve Charbonneau reminds me of Christine McVie, given her melodic voice. It is also to do with how her songs process emotions. A prolific poet and wonderful songstress, there are tales in every song that dedicate her passion to her dream. Song after song, you’ll feel enchanted with her vocals. This is her latest single, Symphony of Sorrow. You can instantly feel goosebumps the moment the song starts. The string opening is like a chamber of crystal and glass. Reading these refractions through Genevieve Charbonneau and her unique vision is a treat. Soothing tones and emotional strings carry the track, like a carpet of sound. You’re in awe of how she writes, things that we all experience. It becomes bittersweet, the melody and lyrics, eventually. It is a testament to how a songwriter brings and binds you to a song. I took two listens to fully understand what the song truly talks about. Her experience is one that really shifts the plane, makes it easier to understand her perspective. Poetry in motion, gentle and with finesse. It is like watching a ballet to an orchestra. ‘ I instantly connected this song to one of the scenes in Ladybird. The coming of age effect with this kind of simple instrumental ribbon and style makes it all the more poignant. Genevieve has turned heads with her performances on her 2019 album, Heart Is a Tower, among other singles. She creates an experience unlike any other songwriter. Listen to her single, and make sure you follow her as well!
