Irian Darkwood-Greensleeves
Irian Darkwood bring us that rock style which you have missed hearing on the radio. It is the kind of attack and emotion that balances each other out. In the grey, the contrast can be enjoyed for what it brings. Carol Bernardo brings her energy and zeal with characteristic compositions that will resonate with you. This is her latest single, called Greensleeves. The track has been famous for aeons now. I have heard several versions of the track, but Irian Darkwood would have her own take. The rock, swinging version of the song leaves a very different feel in the brain. It is exciting, tantalising and most importantly induces nostalgia. The project from Canada has put a lot of effort in bringing the rock theme to its genuine stature with this style. From hard rock to heavy metal, Carol is able to traverse any waters with ease. In this composition, she stretches herself as a talented vocalist, opening with a blood-curdling scream and on to the verse. The vocals shift views from the age-old lyrics to a contemporary vision, which Irian Darkwood matches with her feral energy. It is an incredible song, where her vocals rightfully stand out and enjoy the lime-washed spotlight. Known for her debut single called Lost Heart, her second track has all that she has to show in skill and more. This would be a great song in the second season of Hightown (2020), with some great action sequence and feel as well. Listen to the track above, and follow Irian here for more music like this!
Irian Darkwood - Light At The End of The Tunnel
Soaring, uplifting, and embodying the spirit of a rock anthem, Irian Darkwood returns with Light At The End of The Tunnel. A powerful single that shouts of hope, perseverance, and the strength to emerge from darkness. This track is more than just music. It is a battle cry for those struggling with addiction and mental health challenges. A reminder that even in the bleakest moments, there is always a way forward. Here are a few excerpts from our recent, brief Q&A with Irian: Q: This song was written nearly a decade ago. What was it like revisiting it now for a full release? Did your perspective on its message change over time?A: I was so excited when my team picked this song up, the message is still the same, but the music has changed, just no longer country, ha ha, so really the perspective on it hasn't changed, so much, just the genre of music Darkwood, hailing from Halifax, Canada, has infused this song with deeply personal meaning. As a recovered addict, she draws from her own journey to craft lyrics that are raw, honest, and inspiring. Originally penned nearly a decade ago, the song’s origins trace back to the Canadian Country Music Awards, where a well-known artist—unbeknownst to her at the time—praised the potential of the lyrics. That moment of validation has now come full circle with this explosive, hard-hitting release. Q: You’ve blended elements of rock, metal, country, and blues in your music. How did those influences shape Light At The End of The Tunnel, and how does this song compare to your past work?A: This is a different feel of a song from the other two, each song that I've done so far is individually different, they carry different messages and have different feels, so really if I'm to be honest, I don't think any one of them really compared to the other because they're each individual on their own. Q: Your music is deeply personal, often drawing from your own struggles with PTSD and fibromyalgia. How do you channel those experiences into your songwriting and performances?A: The messages in my songs are always along the lines of you're not alone, and no matter what, there's hope and recovery, that people can always get better… So, I guess what I try to bring to my songs and music is that message,e and as far as the performances go I always aim to bring smiles to people's faces because that's the ultimate high for me, to see people forget whatever troubles they have, even for a few minutes. Unlike conventional singer-songwriter compositions, 'Irian Darkwood - Light At The End of The Tunnel' is a dynamic rock-infused powerhouse. Its unrelenting instrumentals drive home the urgency of its message, while Darkwood’s vocal performance is nothing short of electrifying. She delivers the lyrics with an undeniable force, every note carrying the weight of lived experience. The choruses swell with passion, blending wide, resonant vocals with a wall of sound that refuses to be ignored. Beyond its sonic intensity, the song carries a message of resilience and recovery. "Irian Darkwood - Light At The End of The Tunnel" stands as a beacon of hope for those facing struggles, reinforcing that healing is possible. Q: The recording process for this track spanned across Halifax and Sweden. How did that international collaboration influence the final sound? Were there any unexpected challenges or surprises?A: I don't really know, to be honest, if it had any particular influence because of where it was, but I did get the opportunity to see Sweden, Stockholm in particular, and that was pretty awesome. I highly recommend it. As with all recordings there's always challenges, especially for me personally, the thing that drove me nuts the most was the technology, ha ha because I'm not very good with computers, so my manager was kind enough to sit there for sometimes a couple of hours at a time to "educate" me Q: You had a chance encounter with a well-known Canadian country artist while writing this song. How did that moment impact your confidence or approach to songwriting moving forward?A: I was still pretty green to the scene as they say, so I was a little bit starstruck, and I was super excited that this person even looked at me ha ha ha, it gave me a lot of confidence to keep doing what I was doing. Q: Your music carries powerful messages of resilience and hope. If there’s one thing you want listeners to take away from Light At The End of The Tunnel, what would it be?A: As I said earlier, I want people to know that they're not alone and that there's always hope and things will get better. Nothing is permanent. Also, I want people to know that if they ever need to, my proverbial "door" is always open and feel free to message me anytime! Thematically and emotionally, Light At The End of The Tunnel would be a fitting addition to Wild, Jean-Marc Vallée’s 2014 biopic starring Reese Witherspoon. Much like Cheryl Strayed’s journey across the Pacific Crest Trail, Darkwood’s song encapsulates the raw, arduous path to self-discovery and healing, making it an ideal companion to the film’s powerful narrative.
