The Screaming Pope is a one-man project that you might not have heard of. You might regret this, after you listen to the fantastic album present to you today. A brilliant infusion of electronic elements with analogue melodies, this concoction is unlike any other composition you’ve heard in a while. George Bolton is bringing us his full length album, Our Love Is Music.Â
If you drop the conditioned cynicism we have as a society for a while, you can hear why music has the power to unite. The Screaming Pope is not here to preach, but to show music that can bind like the roots of the humble tree to the nurturing Earth. The title track opening might give you that glimmer of hope, as you can marinate within that melody that is just joy embedded in time.Â
Audio euphoria from the start
A groovy, funkier song is next with Hands On You. The Screaming Pope sounds like no one else, because he is choosing elements that are an internal frequency to him. This song’s lyrics and warm instrumental feel give that particular energy, something you want to use like a magic carpet to get away. The idiosyncratic melodies of Home Again take you on another tangent, but around the same circle of symphony. Short, interesting compositions that present, and don’t overstay their welcome.
The tonal genius in Sleeping Alone is one of my favourite. As someone who is trying to get into production, George has infused the right tones and styles to get the click of the song in an instant. The R&B tone stays in your soul till Brown Eyes Blinking begins. It is a much more emotional, emotive and baroque composition for the layers involved. The way that The Screaming Pope jumps between genres and textures is something revolutionary, and extremely intriguing. The attention to detail is what allows all aspects of the track to change aura from within.Â
The Screaming Pope manipulates matter and melody
In songs like Supernatural, you are subjected to a treat of sounds. You will not hear another artist like this, for each song can incite some other element of vocal expression or instrumental excellence. It is pop, but with many more layers. It is synthwave sometimes, but not as simple as a beat and an overdose of what the genre offers. Subtle, but a statement is made with every song that The Screaming Pope designs.
There are 11-12 full length albums for you to experience on his Spotify, and trust me, it will be time well spent. This particular album would be great in Turbo Kid (2015), for the kind of dynamic style it can provide, and adapt with.
