Tedworth- Going Under
Tedworth released a powerful and emotionally charged number named Going Under and he is showing off! It’s got incredible vocals and songwriting. The track feels like a shot of pure coffee that leaves you reeling with energy to face the day. While the song is energy personified, it is a melancholic number that speaks of feeling lost and the introspection that follows.
What Tedworth does brilliantly in Going Under is placing two contrasting elements- the beat structure and the lyrics against each other. The result of which is giving us a masterpiece to experience. It kicks off with the drums and the guitar that’s got a retro texture to it adding a sense of innocence and youth to the song. The drums injects the song with a sense of teenage angst about not knowing what the future holds and not knowing how to assess or handle relationships. “I try to read between the lines but end up falling further all the time.” If this doesn’t scream lost boy, I don’t know what does.
A series that gave us an end that we did not expect after 6 seasons is Gossip Girl. Going Under would be a perfect number to embody Dan Humphrey played by Penn Badgley who ends up a writer. No one saw it coming, how the fly on the wall was the perfect Gossip Girl. This track can be played during multiple instances in Seasons One and Two for many teenage Dan moments.
Tedworth has peppered the song with so much depth, it is also owed to the clean production. The intensity bought in by his voice and the instrumental background score is the marriage that makes the song work. This song is easily a standout in the genre and a must listen.
