Kejcz- Set Me Free
Set Me Free by Kejcz is a power-packed number about reclaiming one’s life. It speaks of a toxic relationship that one needs to leave but can’t. The pop number has you grooving with its EDM touch to it. The song perfectly captures the mind frame of people who are in toxic relationships. Oftentimes, they need to leave the relationship not because they hate the person but to save themselves.
“I don’t wanna go. I wanna stay. Set me free.” paired with the song’s progressive beats and honest vocals convey the depth of the emotion. The words “Set me free” keeps getting repeated which really punches in on the fact that the singer is trapped. The song articulates the feeling of loosing control, so much so that they need the other person to break up the relationship because of this lack of control.
The song is very reminiscent of the energy that Lucifer carries in Lucifer the series. I the show and in the comics, Lucifer is portrayed the way an angel designated to rule hell must be portrayed. Like he’s a guy doing a job but everyone associates him with Evil. he wants himself of his angel status and the guy literally cuts off his wings in order to run away from his angelness. But he keeps getting told that he’s the only one that can do it. “Set Me Free” would be the perfect song for Lucifer because fate keeps having other plans for him.
While it is difficult to break away, Kejcz reminds us that we must take back control. We might have to snatch, scratch and claw at it but the decisions of what happens in our life cannot lie in someone else’s hands. We must muster up enough strength to walk out of a bad relationship.
