Porchlight by Chris Caulfield is an upbeat medley that zaps you into a whirlwind of emotions and imagery. The soulful vocals convey a sense of regret and introspection. He draws inspiration from Porchlight, almost as though he will always hold a candle out for this love.
Caulfield’s voice is nothing short of raw, emotive and moving. This paired with the synthesised instrumentals infuses the song with the ultimate sense of authenticity and vulnerability. The melody’s melancholic undertones are tempered by a quiet sense of optimism. The track is as smooth as water when it comes to production. We hear it, especially in the background vocals that adds depth to the texture of the track. The lyrics are simple yet hold so much gravity within it. And it’s seen in every layer, we hear him faintly as he says “I know, I will never let go”. As though he is sure that he might not receive another chance but hopes for it anyway.
A film that captures the hopeless idea of wanting love to work out no matter what is Someone Great. There is a letter she writes to her ex that is truly heartbreaking. She hopes to say it all, one last time. To hold him one last time, kiss him one last time and to say goodbye again but she knows she can’t so she will settle for writing a letter. This track evokes similar imagery and would be wonderful in the background of this very scene.
The song paints a picture of deep longing. There is a glimmer to this sadness that keeps the listeners coming back for more. Much like hope, this too must be passed forward so do not forget to share this track and follow the work by Chris Caulfield.
