Eruption Artistique are more than music. They represent art, burgeoning for change and thought. At a time when you are conformed within windows of information, this collective wants to create change through their brand of rock n roll. The best brand is no brand, for a reason. This is their latest single, So Strange.
What is so strange is how that sound output occurs. Eruption Artistique use a tone that sounds like Phoebe Bridgers on ayahuasca. It doesn’t melt, but seep into the system through all your pores of realization. Each note and string gives an impact like none other. There is a possibility you will be spellbound just to the bassline. Then comes the non-conforming melody strung together. If you’re following the beginning of the song, there is a sudden backwash that creates a happier, positive tone in the chorus. Your active listening is par excellence if you caught the change in the first listen. This collective is a representation, a thought with theme. Like The White Stripes in the early 2000s, they regress into black and white in their visual frames, creating a cinematic balance in the black and white.
I linked this song to The Notorious Betty Page (2005) for its theme and adherence to nothing in the mainstream. It is a school of thought that Eruption Artistique bring, and it is that sound that sets all their songs apart. Their 2021 EP Vicar Pop is a lesson for anyone trying to bring in an idiosyncratic aesthetic. Remember, though, don’t try too hard.
