Good Citizen by LIGHTNING GUSTO is a sound that I didn't know I missed so much until I heard it. The Norwegian singer calls himself a one-man rock and roll band, and he does not disappoint. Good Citizen makes me want to go on a long drive with my friends and scream the song to anyone who would listen. In a coming-of-age movie, this would be the song that the characters will yell at the top of their lungs as they forget all their problems. The guitar riffs are so fun, keeping the track sonically intriguing. And the bridge of the song really takes the excitement up a notch. In the lyrics, LIGHTNING GUSTO talks about the world we live in now. A world where everyone gets offended by the smallest things. A world where way too many people dictate our lives. We walk on eggshells on a path that is assigned to us, disguised as freedom. When the artist sings the lyrics, "Just wanna blend in with the crowd~And be your humble unobtrusive," he seems like he's a part of this narrative. He tells us how he is ready to bow his head and "take their beatings gladly," giving in to any punishment so that he can be the law-abiding but unthinking puppet they want him to be. But he is just reflecting our lives onto his song. He sings to us, telling us to pay attention to how confined and without freedom we are. How we've accepted this fate without a fight. By the end of the song we know that he will not keep his mouth shut like everyone else.
