KARMA - Anthem
When Anthem starts, we immediately know why it's titled that. The marching percussion sets the tone of the song right off the bat. With the confident rapping on top of it, it's very clear that KARMA wants to make a statement. The song begins with a melodic rap section that I feel is a great choice for an uplifting anthem. The rapping is very sultry, exuding confidence. The chorus is an earworm and feels reminiscent of girl groups of the past. The vocals have R&B influences, and the harmonies are tight and beautifully airy. The trio knows how to use their voices well; when to create moments of intrigue and interest. The periodic trumpet riff adds to the drama of the song. The chant-y bridge to the final chorus is a perfect way to end this song. The percussion picks up along with the vocals, and the energy is brought even higher. The pop formula is used very well here because they succeeded in creating a song that is perfect in its balance of catchy melodies, beautiful vocals, and polished production. This song does exactly what it promises to do. It is an anthem for all the people who need to hear that their self-worth is not linked to the people they are with. It tells you that all you need is yourself and the people who stand by you through thick and thin. A beautiful message, and the song is a great song to work out to, which is a bonus. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for whatever KARMA has in store for us in the future.
