Kamakshi Khanna blends retro and contemporary with dabbles of class. It is the perfect combination of an independent musician's quality-acknowledging roots and creating something of a trademark. She reaches into the horizon with her 4 track EP called Heartbreak 2020. This is artistic fluency at its peak. Not only is Kamakshi a talented vocalist, but the lines she chooses aren’t what you would traditionally gravitate to. She navigates scales not as a technical wizard that she is in her art, but as someone who would want the crowd to sing it. As a listener, I sit mesmerized at home at her progression choices, her emotional lyrics and soothing crescendoes. All that from the addictive energy of the opening song alone. Her second number is Love is Not A Fucking Game. In the acoustic bubble, the spotlight is only on her vocals and the lucid poetry. If there are atmospheres, they accent her vocals and elevate into a new layer of the stratosphere. The percussions echo in the background, creeping up to hear the lyrics with a personal touch. When she strains to the higher registers, you can hear the pain and truth of the kind of lyrics she sings. The cascade is to be felt per line, and Kamakshi Khanna knows that this is the space to bare it all. With her next single Tourist, she approaches love from a third perspective. While she has entered that safe space, she can understand the intricacies with immense maturities. The pre-chorus parts are enchanting, interacting with the romantic lyrics as an aural capsule. How she chooses the percussion and time signatures leave the orthodox structure to be a pulse of the yearning heart. Kamakshi Khanna is singing to meld the fractures in her heart with passion and understanding. The closing song is Heartbreak 2020. She has had impactful singles like Duur, Qareeb and Breathe, but this is where she blossoms, while singing in English. Her multilingual singing capabilities are witnessed with class several times, especially during her concerts.
