Giulio Risi - The Legend of 1900
In a world that demands that you leave everything behind and function if you are wired and tired, Giulio Risi demands that you slow down. His latest release, The Legend of 1900/Playing Love, is proof that music has the ability to cross borders and time. The songwriter and musician is one that believes that music is not just an escape but rather a sanctuary for the stories lurking within each of us. This is true for musicians and music lovers; you write with one sanctuary in mind, but in turn, you are laying seed to so many more story sanctuaries. The song is enticingly simple; it draws you in with the piano keys that lie on your chest like the first drops of dew on the grass. The track isn’t in a rush; Giulio allows for each note to brew and allows for notes to settle, and before we know it, he adds in the instrumentation that bubbles in your ear and chest like a flowing fresh water stream. The music design is a lot steadier and more inviting, rather than a whirlwind of notes and emotions. There is never a single point of crescendo, but rather there are moments of enticing intensity that grip our attention. Giulio says so much with his music without the use of words, staying true and in step with the movie The Legend of 1900. Another series that the music would be wonderful in is The Other Bennet Sisters, staying true to Mary’s self-realization, evolution, and hard-coming-to-terms moments. Giulio Risi brings in such a complex concoction of sonic tapestry and makes it look simple. He is truly a maestro unlike any other.
