Sorcha McCarthy - Rings
3 h : 34 min

The new song "Rings" by Sorcha McCarthy is a poignant expression of heartbreak and longing that many can relate to. The track boasts a powerful mix that highlights Sorcha's delicate and soulful voice while creating a soundscape that captures the emotions of the song. The lyrics of "Rings" are evocative and heart-wrenching, painting a picture of someone who's stuck in a cycle of disappointment and pain. The opening lines, "Another day, it starts the way, the same familiar end," encapsulate the feeling of being trapped in a situation where nothing ever changes. The chorus of the song is particularly striking, with Sorcha's voice rising over the music as she sings, "And my resolve will fall away again, again, again, again, you're calling out my name again." This lyric sums up the sense of vulnerability and helplessness that comes with being drawn back to trauma. In conversation with Sorcha McCarthy Rings seem to have an emotionally resonant lyrical narrative. What was your inspiration behind writing this song? It’s actually narrated from the point of view of a friend about a bad relationship she once had. She contributed a line or two at the time of writing when things were still fresh but as I understand it she finds it hard to listen to now, unfortunately. I realise writing such a person-specific song can result in a song that’s hard for listeners to relate to, but I wrote it “for” her rather than for anyone else. Who were your biggest musical inspirations for songwriting?I love the lyrical style in Lucy Dacus’s latest album Home Video. Taylor Swift is of course the master of diaristic storytelling these days, so she’s in too. I love Lana, too, and draw from her in my more “poemy” songs. Your music has a sense of melancholia intertwined in a dream-pop soundscape. Could you walk us through your process of composition and production?Well, I wrote the song on acoustic guitar, and the rest is basically a result of just playing around on Ableton until I found a nice vibe. Which I didn’t, so much. And then my brother (Ian of FUTURE BABY) had to try to salvage it in the mixing stage. Basically, the good parts can be credited to him, and the flaws can be credited to me! What's Next? After your critically acclaimed debut single that has won the hearts of millions, can fans expect a full-length record soon?Ha, that’s being a little bit generous! But I do have another single release planned for this week or next, it’s just being mastered now. After that, I’m going to just put out an EP of a bunch of older songs, then possibly do that again until I’m left just with the ones I want on my album. What are your future plans in terms of touring and live shows? We can not wait to witness your genius in a live environment!I can’t even really think of a tour or a live show until I figure out a band and how I want to arrange the songs for live performances. I’ve only ever performed with my acoustic guitar (though once I had a backing band) and I’m sort of moving more into a fuller sound now so I guess I have to consider how I’ll make the same sounds live Concluding Thoughts The song would fit seamlessly into the soundtracks of several movies, including "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Call Me By Your Name." The themes of love and loss in the films echo the sentiments of "Rings," making it a fitting addition to their soundtracks. In conclusion, Sorcha McCarthy's "Rings" is a powerful and emotional song that speaks to anyone who's experienced the pain of heartbreak. Her soulful vocals and poignant lyrics create an affecting mix that captures the sense of longing and disappointment at the heart of the song. "Rings" is a song that shall solidify the artist's place as one of the best upcoming dream-pop artists to emerge from the English indie scene.
