Linda is a singer songwriter from Budapest- Hungary. She is making a comeback after an eight year long break. She regularly releases new singles. One of her singles is “Best Friend” where she naturally entices people with her powerhouse songwriting and voice.
Linda’s latest Rock Single is titled “Ballad of Abigail” referring to the Abigail Williams from the Salem witch trials. Abigail falsely accused Tituba and several other neighbours of practicing witchcraft. The other reference is to the Night Witches of WW2, they were a group of all female military aviators. They flew against Germany. Linda nods to this in her video where she is seen flying a PO2 plane.
The song starts off with a piano key and Linda’s low sultry voice follows. With lyrics like “This morning, hungry as I am for love. I decided to kill somebody and I set off with a gun in my hand to murder the man who did this to me” she summons such great imagery. Along with important historical events, she also plays with perspective in the song. While Largely speaking as Abigail doing the betraying, she also tells us how women get subjected to betrayal as well. Pairing this representation with the crescendo of the song that has the dramatic interlude of Linda’s vocals layered with skillful electrical guitar, drums and piano rendering, makes this song a cathartic listen.
Linda’s play of perspectives is very similar of Michael Lehmann’s The Woman in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window‘s storyline. The Dark Dramedy is a slow burn. Much like the series, so much of the song unfolds itself, layer after layer as it progresses. The song elicits imagery of blood, drama and betrayal. Similarly the protagonist puts herself in various hilariously harmful situations to find the truth. There is an otherworldly spirit to her songs and she seems to be gaining followers with her lyrics that are bursting with meaning.
