The Loud Bangs

The Loud Bangs

Founded in the summer of 2021, Los Angeles rockers THE LOUD BANGS were brought together by a love of shoegaze, ‘90s alternative, and German club music. The result: thick guitars, analog synthesizers, fuzzy production, and introspection, in that their songs typically center around the subject of mental health. Gaining a reputation as ‘the PINK FLOYD of Shoegaze,’ their songs are peppered with public domain field recordings alongside sporadic howls, some oohs and ahhs, a few cryptic words here and there. These sparse ornaments and the song titles seem to be all that’s needed to let you into their world. ‘Who needs lyrics to convey emotion?’ remarks band leader Alice Street. ‘We can’t understand the words of MY BLOODY VALENTINE, or COCTEAU TWINS, or SIGUR ROS, and we still get what they’re singing about. Honestly, we’re no good at lyrics so who cares?’ Buoyed by producer Darren Callahan, the band features the twin guitars of Street and Daisy Gutierrez, plus the sick grooves of bassist Hannah Remley and drummer Marcus Nemuro. Stray Honey is the band’s seventh 5-song EP in 14 months. Like its suggestive title, these tracks tilt towards themes of sex and sexual loneliness in a way past EPs avoided, making it a raw nerve filled with joy, terror, and shame. The singles ‘Sex Complex’ and ‘Electroprize’ both have videos on the band’s YouTube channel.
