The Leif
Magnus Tenge, Per Oddvar Johansen and Tellef Øgrim from Norway comprise the closely interacting, poetic, original and melodic rock-jazz band called The Leif. They have created their guitar-oriented music since 2015. The self-titled album The Leif (2018) was followed up with But You Move On in 2020. Then came their second full-length album, Then There, in 2023. Their latest output is Det er en egen lomme, a brave celebration of collective music-making and artistic tolerance. (Photo: Niklas Hart) About their latest output: On October 22, The Leif released their fourth album Det er en egen lomme The three musicians continue their exploration of small quirky melodies, short chord progressions, or bass lines that they can settle into for a while, or take on a walk. They also delve into noisy 14/8 riffs, which perhaps drifted in from the distant 70s, along with a bit of pop flirtation and a big smile. This instrumental album, drawing influences from jazz, rock, and pop, is first and foremost a celebration of creativity. It tells a deeper story about the journey of developing a shared musical language—one that transforms creativity into fully-formed compositions, ultimately weaving together a cohesive collection of songs.
