E.G. Phillips
E.G. Phillips creates lyric driven songs with his own special blend of whimsy and cinematic imagery which he uses to give a wry take on dealing with the longings of the heart and the madness of existence. Musically he's Bob Dylan with flatted fifths as well as lounge music falling somewhere between Tom Waits and They Might Be Giants. Call it jazz-infused alternative Americana. In possession of a degree in Geography, he comes from a country called the Midwest. His own favorites include The Beatles, The Kinks as well as Duke Ellington...and that crowd. There's a touch of satirist Tom Lehrer in his stage persona and he admits there's an unusually outsized influence by long running British sci-fi show "Doctor Who" on his oeuvre. "Ducks With Pants" is the name of his fake band. On Earth Day 2022 E.G. released the jazz-folk Alien from an Alternate Earth. Produced by Chris Mcgrew the album features horn arrangements by Rich Armstrong. Later that year he released Mental Maps, his 2nd team up with producer Kenny Schick Phillips' 2023 EP Outlaw the Dead was an art rock/jazz mashup that Rock-n-Roll.biz calls "a pensive and engaging treasure chest" and 2024's "Nashville Recordings, Vol. 4: Wear and Tear" was said to "masterfully blends traditional elements of folk music with influences from progressive rock" by blogger Nenes Butler.
