C’batch

C’batch

C’batch, the professional name of White Plains, New York-based composer, producer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Stephen H. Cumberbatch, is an independent artist whose music moves freely across R&B, soul, funk, reggae, dance, jazz-influenced, electronic and cinematic sounds. With roots reaching back to New York’s early-1980s dance scene, he has built an extensive catalogue as a guitarist, keyboardist, synthesizer and sampler programmer. Alongside his wife Yvette, he founded Stevette Music, Inc. in 1984, the home of his independent musical work and publishing. In 2026, C’batch began opening his extensive archives through The Vault, revisiting compositions and recordings accumulated across decades. His music is defined by experimentation rather than allegiance to a single genre, with melody and the possibilities of reinterpretation at its centre. His latest EP, I Guess You Want It This Way, transforms a nearly 26-year-old reggae composition into six distinct interpretations, blending reggae, soul, R&B, cinematic textures and dub.
