Sophia Stephens is a seventeen year old independent singer and songwriter. Her childhood brought many experiences that left lasting impressions of immense sadness, hope, and unwavering faith for better days. These experiences included watching a friend in her neighborhood, who was only a year older than her, pass away from cancer, her favorite third grade teacher passing from pancreatic cancer, her father having brain surgery for a Dural-cutaneous Fistula, and her mother being diagnosed with Cutaneous T-Cell Lymphoma.
During these trying times she experienced people come together to comfort and support each other. As an outlet she began to write at a very young age. She wrote lengthy stories of fantasy and compelling arguments of peace and justice often reciting them as if she was giving a speech in front of a huge audience. It was an undeniable passion for her to use words to move others and eventually after receiving her first guitar, in second grade, those lengthy stories translated into songs with heartfelt lyrics that seemed to be written by a much older soul than the young person holding the pencil and paper.
She has written over 300 songs. Her debut EP, Remnantal, is her first professionally produced release which captures the types of songs and music she likes to create. Some of the chords and melodies of her songs were created in collaboration with her brother, Jackson, who is three years younger than her. He does not sing but is a natural piano player who plays by ear. She already has three full albums written and will be working on getting them produced with the first full album coming next year.
