Oxford based, born and raised band Shaven Primates has travelled the globe with their music. No stranger to chance and circumstance, their music is a blend of stellar songwriting with contemporary melodies. Inspired by Bowie and forming this style of Art Rock has been the very signature of Shaven Primate’s sound. Music explains itself through all intents and purposes, the listeners’ perception making it even more nuanced. This is how Shaven Primates looks at the music they make as well.
From listening to saxophone from his mother while growing up, music got embedded in the singer’s soul and pulse early. Live music was always electric in Oxford, almost caving a way for the direction to take in terms of music. Creating this band was a journey unlike any other, experimenting and exploring realms is always a possibility. The 2021 album Child of Dirt is a dip into that, creating music that yearns for meaning. With singles like On the Bleeding Edge and The Zoo, Shaven Primates has been recognised as a melodic force.
Shifting from personal battles and trauma to something different was a challenge for Shaven Primates. The new album, Birds Aren’t Real focuses on a macro perspective of things, from uncertainty, denial, politics, conspiracies etc. Musically, each of these topics are approached with sharp lyricism and a realist view of what society might turn over to become.
