ida - Asta

ida's latest release 'Asta' is a timeless, heartfelt, folksy pop ode to friendship. A rising name in the Brit indie pop scene, young Danish-Scottish artist ida has had a slew of releases this year. Her latest, "Asta" was born out a chance encounter with Celtic guitarist Vid Weeks.  The track opens with ethereal string arrangements and ida's tender, sincere vocals singing, '“She was a dark girl with hair the colour of the night sky far out to sea, but you could always hear the sound of her soft, sweet voice…”  Its an instantly hopeful and intriguing sound. ida's touching, effortless storytelling style of singing here pairs so well with the folksy, light instrumentation. The chorus is especially pleasing to hear. Soothing harmonies and deeply personal lyrics make it a deeply evocative listen.  The lyrics are a reference to the pure, innocent bond of friendship between two young girls and how that bond evolves over time. Or perhaps it's the perspective of a yound girl on how she would like to see herself, creating a fictional idealistic 'friend' who gets her through it all.  Taking from her own tumultuous upbringing, ida had this message to convey about the essence of Asta -  'Girlfriends are super important to girls but girls can be ruthless if you don’t fit in. I didn’t fit in anywhere. I had a pretty miserable childhood; my mother died when i was three and I was shunted around a few different countries. Asta is the bright side of my childhood, its melodic and light acoustic stuff, but I hope it will ring bells for a lot of girls.”  'ida - Asta' is a deeply moving, evocative indie pop track. Sure to be loved and heard by young girls women who may have forgotten about the value of that one best friend in their lives. This track would be a great soundtrack addition to the 2019, Olivia Wilde-starring, coming-of-age teen comedy flick 'Booksmart'.
