Wotts-blue
3 h : 18 min

When I heard the dreamy sound of Wotts, only one thing entered my mind. Where’s my pool and margarita? This indie pop duo from Canada have been making calculated ripples of focus and repose in our minds. Waves, but softer and the soothing variety. With their newest single, they take us to the vast colour that is the depth of the oceans on Earth. This is blue.  There is a certain tone when you hear on synth, your pulse has the same consistency as quicksand. Wotts manage to do that with blue. A beachside relaxant, or your getaway within the caging walls of your office, there is an immediate link to the instrumentals. Lyrics make you dive deeper into this image, humming with the positive vibrations of a joyous song. A true definition of the word chill. Though I instantly linked to Thundercat (who these guys love, by the way), I also heard tones of Impala. The soft beats and syncopation within the leads and glittery sounds is what every weekend should sound like. If there’s a soundtrack for time going in reverse, this is what takes the cake.  This song would do very well in montages of the 2019 movie, Waves. From the storytelling to scene transitioning, the story is the puzzle piece for the complete view. Wotts have made superbly catchy tracks like Lemonade and No Take Backs, which are recommended for all day loops. Feel your mind waves wander to seek for cranial composure. Only this kind of music can make me write a sentence like that.

Wotts - Garden
2 h : 30 min

Get ready to be swooped away on a mesmerizing adventure with the Canadian duo Wotts, as they invite us to sonic wonderland with their latest single- Garden. It is truly hard to fit this track into one single genre, it exists in the intersection of blues, synth and Electro-pop. So buckle up and get ready for the joyride of a journey as they have you hooked and leave you captivated from start to finish. The song starts off with Wotts’s vocals accompanied by a snappy guitar strum that has a bohemian edge to it. This persists throughout the song. Garden manages to immediately grab your attention as they effortlessly weave together laid-back melodies creating an irresistibly catchy tune. The track has one of those beat structures that can only be described as hip-hop trance. Kudos to the production team that has churned out such a great catchy backing that has you bobbing your head throughout the duo’s performance. Something about the track both perks up your senses and relaxes them. This Is the End is one of those films where you don’t know what's coming next! From start to finish, it’s a whirlwind of emotions and Garden would be the perfect fit for one particular scene right at the start, just before the “This Is the End” part takes place. Especially when Seth Rogan meets Jay Barunchel for the first time in the film. That being said Wotts has given us a bouquet of melodies with Garden.

Wotts - Be Kind
3 h : 32 min

Wotts comes in with a shimmery soundscape that instantaneously dazzles us with vibrant lyrics in Be Kind. The energy has your legs naturally propelling itself up as you sit back, relax and let the music take over. The infectious rhythm is somehow both relaxing and energizing at the same time. The track feels like a lagoon journey with a canopy of sounds that surround you and you can’t help but surrender.  We hear a mix of pop and a hint of eclectic rock within the track that add a variety of textures to the listening experience. The track starts off with a magical score that does a stellar job of roping us into Wott’s world. By the time the vocals make an entrance, we’re already hooked. While the song is titled Be Kind, the track revolves around a relationship having to say goodbye to a lover. While the lyrics throw shade, they still somehow manage to be kind about it. Also, can we take a moment to appreciate the artwork on the cover? They have us invested even before we hit play.  A film that deals with the journey of trying to say goodbye to a partner is Happy Anniversary. Ben Schwartz is a brilliant performer in general but this is one of the first few films that has us seeing him outside the comedy Genre and he delivers! Be Kind fits in brilliantly into this exquisite film. Wotts has all their musical prowess on display, the vocals and the production quality of the song are nothing short of perfect. So turn up the volume as you hit the share button. You can check out more of their work in the links attached above.
