Paul Frazer Clarke sure does know how to write a theme. It’s not as per how you would visualise a movie, but scripting that into lyrics and melodies is a complex task. He makes it look like a side quest with the way he constructs and holds your attention. His latest single is called You’re My Breath, and you can almost picture all the scenes he is trying to take you through. With layered instrumentals, you’re brought into a blanket that is warm, comforting and weighted. Perhaps the kind you and your partner hold on to. Paul Frazer Clarke has been making music for 36 years, which is 10 more than I have been alive for. That is an incredible run, knowing the music industry inside out. That’s how he plays the music as well, perfecting every transition and delivery of notes to make something memorable. By the time you listen to You’re My Breath, you feel an emptiness that has been filled within. Masterfully, and carefully. Combined with canifallasleepnow, you can hear the contemporary influences, while production has been perfected to give the right weight to delivery. It is an incredible, jazzy, emotional journey that has an amalgam of trip-hop, jazz chord progressions and ambiences. Paul Frazer Clarke is a perfect example of understanding the vision behind a song and executing it with that weight. The zeal of the song is powerful, while having a strong spine in melody you can rely on. This would be a great song for the second season of Atlanta, starring Donald Glover. It captures the non-sequitir moments of the show with a passion, while being specifically the buoy for scenes with non verbal parts.
