Sambox-Hanami
Sambox delves into the intricacies of melody with his music. From ambient playlists to well crafted TV series and dramas, there is no visual that this artist cannot compose for. Vice-versa, his music conjures images so detailed, with such minimal interjection. This is his latest single, Hanami. Many words in other languages lose their true meaning in English. The vivid art of viewing cherry trees blossom is called Hanami. It is a practice that truly appreciates nature for what it is. The depth and style with which the concurrent meaning is drawn out, remains the magic in his composition, Sambox proceeds to make a gentle song. This is something that is as slow and deliberate as the blooming of the flowers. The notes open up, like petals-creating a mélange of colours and sounds that are rare. As someone who specializes in instrumental art, there is a purposeful passive beauty in letting the moment pass. You then comment on it with our eyes and mind. The echoing synths flow, like the character of one tree to another, while the strings create a dramatic narrative of the story that is to follow. This song immediately reminded me of the Studio Ghibli film called My Neighbour Totoro, with stills and sequences of this very picturesque beauty. You can see more of his masterful work in his 2019 album, La Parsienne and various other specific singles like Liar in Love and Let Me Breathe. Follow Sambox for instrumentals that will transport you to a magical wonderland!
Sambox - Insouciance
In a world that often feels overwhelming with its many worries and responsibilities, Sambox invites you to turn all these feelings into sound. The mesmerizing instrumentals in Insouciance have you swimming in an ocean of emotions. This single has two renditions both these tracks are completely different from one another in terms of atmosphere. The enchanting arrangement exudes a vibrant energy that is impossible to resist in both the tracks. There is something so hauntingly familiar with Réminscence. The tumbling chords stumble into your heart and quickly marks territory because it continues you stay in your mind long after the track stops playing. He does all this with just music and all so effortlessly. Evidence is completely different from Réminscence, if Réminscence were an ocean, Evidence would be a mountain in terms of the atmosphere. Both tracks are rich in ambient sounds that make both track sound familiar. The way in which the silky smooth production beads the tracks together, chord by chord, tugs at the strings of your heart. Both these songs feel like they could fit into any period of history and it would just make sense. Moreover, each song from Insouciance tells a single story but at different parts. The nuances that these tracks have is incredible, making them the perfect fit for Pride and Prejudice. The movie’s hand scene has a cult following of its own and if it were to have Réminscence playing in the background, people would combust because of the tension and chemistry. This pure bliss of a soundtrack and Sambox deserves to be acknowledged and must touch hearts across the world because he sure does understand it well. The world needs to bask and glow in the sun that is Insouciance and Sambox.
Sambox ft. Anita Barbereau-Wabi Sabi
If you don’t know about Sambox, it’s just that you think you don't. The artist has been responsible for several thousand productions and songs, and makes music himself. From instrumentals that really move your soul to the kind of songs that make you contemplate, this artist has brought you another soulful song. This one is called Wabi Sabi with Anita Barbereau. The touch of the silken strings is what you feel first. Wabi Sabi is a mix of emotions, opening with melancholy. It is very simply a meditative walk on a cold winter night. As ambient sound and folk percussion elements come through, you seem to be soaked within the song. The soft, booming bass creates a larger vessel to appreciate the stringed elements. You will be left heartbroken, with the kind of music that you get to experience. Soft, ethereal strings flow in the background, while it slowly evolves into an oriental masterpiece. The finesse of the strings and accompanying production is worth obsessing over. If this is playing in the background, you are at peak performance of thought. Sambox creates a rich tie to heritage and legacy, while celebrating the contemporary, all in one song. You might have heard songs from the album La Parisienne sometime, without realising. It has close to a million streams, so do other songs by this brilliant artist. Anita Barbereau makes her presence an important and pivotal one in this song. I would love to hear this track in The Boy and the Heron (2023). Studio Ghibli movies know how to utilise instrumental music quite brilliantly, and I see this fitting very well. Sambox - Imagination
Dive into the depths of every undiscovered crevice of your soul with the latest release by Sambox- Imagination. The track is the perfect blend of techno and classical. Sambox and Anita Barbereau have given their own unique flourishes to the track. Barbereau brings in her classical sensibilities, owed to the fact that she is a Cello player. Sambox’s ability to sense the right timings for the keys also leaves you awestruck. The track begins like a classical number, we first are introduced to the keys and slowly we hear the Cello kick in. Once the beats kick in it is almost as if we see the spotlights open out onto the player. The track has a unique ability for us to picture a performance of our own in our heads. You can see the dancers/movers have a field day. Much like dance you feel the song in an indescribable way. What Sambox’s and Anita’s music showcase is the power of music, where you feel the music in your bones. You feel yourself dive head-first into the depth of the music and allow it to take control of your thoughts and imagination. A unique film that does a wonderful job of bringing the dance world, the music world and acting together is Suspiria. Suspiria gives us a full showcase of the theatre of emotions on screen and Imagination would be a wonderful addition to this film. Imagination is a unique song that demands your attention. Sambox - Cocooning
Sambox has always been a wizard of a musician, giving us a wondrous set of sounds to lose ourselves in like Cocooning. Cocooning is a collaboration with another brilliant artist- Anita Barbereau. The two forces have united to give us a forest of sounds waiting for us to explore. This track falls into Sambox’s genre of creating scenic/ cinematic ambient music. What sets Sambox’s music apart is the detailing in production. Sambox knows how to peak and hold your interest. It’s beautiful how a string instrument gives off sounds that are as light as air. Like I said before, he gives us a forest of sounds. He allows the music to simmer and build ultimately engulfing us with the sounds. We can hear a lot of East Asian influences in this song. The synth adds a contemporary touch to it. In this forest in Cocooning you can feel the wind swish and twirl, playing games with the leaves that fall off the trees as it rushes past you, weaving between the strands of your hair. All this as you stand still allows the world to do its thing as you stand as a silent observer. There is a quality to Sambox’s songs that are grounded in nature, making us incredibly aware of the beauty of our surroundings. The same can be said about Ghibli films. I can imagine this play in so many scenes in The Wind Rises. If you too want to explore and get lost in beautiful worlds, I highly suggest you click on the links attached above and give Sambox a listen.
