Said Sara- Same
Same by Said Sara AKA David Benson is a track that stands out from the rest of his previous releases. He performs with just the strings, his vocals and his writing. This hauntingly beautiful track makes you want to sit in nature as you skip stones on the glistening still waters. The woody quality of this alt-folk track evokes such great imagery of nature. The song has a repetitive quality to it, whether it’s the lyrics or the musical breaks. The song does a good job of grabbing your attention. What sets it apart though is that it’s at the second or the third listen when you begin to break apart the song and really examine and appreciate it. It's almost as if you're either too ready to move on to the next stanza or not ready to let go of the last stanza. The breaks are an interesting beat structure to play with. The interesting string interlude paired with Said’s voice adds such a bonus to the experience. A film that encapsulates a wide range of experiences is Catherine Called Birdy by Lena Dunham. A beautiful movie about girlhood that is set in medieval England. The film follows Birdy AKA Catherine and her refusal to “grow up” and be sent off through marriage. We have a hilarious protagonist who hides her period rags, scares off suitors and deeply scares her dad. Same would really showcase how similar the father-daughter duo are. It helps so much that the soundscape is so minimal and woody, it would fit seamlessly into the film. The song permeates a sense of longing and hope. The track by Said Sara ebbs and flows and lulls you into a state of trance. I’m sure you wouldn’t want to miss out on the experience.

Gunslingers- Green Acres Motel
Gunslingers has released her much-anticipated EP Green Acres Motel. Imagine Hotel California but country with a thriving guitar base. She plays with music as though it were a kite flying high and it swishes gracefully up in the sky. Gunslingers showcases her talent for creating a warm and inviting country-infused folk music that immerses the listeners. She plays with soft country sounds that have you riding the waves of tranquillity while also creating a contemplative atmosphere. The six-track EP takes us on a journey through various themes, including nostalgia, heartbreak and the fragility of life. Her sweet and tender voice is layered over atmospheric and sparse production. It creates a captivating sound that demands the listener’s attention. How To Sleep by Gunslingers Green Acres Motel is a testament to Gunslingers’ ability to channel her personal experiences into her music. Her unique sound is a blend of folk and Americana, with a touch of experimental elements that set her apart from her contemporaries. The album starts off with How To Sleep a song that deals with dark themes. It oozes distress but Gunslingers does a great job of not pushing that distress onto her listeners through her writing and music. She creates a safe distance between aspects that would inflict distress upon her listeners. Gloryland In Step Up, the track conjures up memories of a special someone, and it finally finishes off with Gloryland, an experimental track that features the sounds of traffic, buses, horns etc. We see this hinted at in her album where she will keep certain throat clearing and inhaling before a stanza. Her attention to detail is evident in every track, from the melancholic and nostalgic melodies of Winking to the heartache of Old Friend. Green Acres Motel is a great example of expert storytelling, there is a meticulous placement of songs in a certain order because it’s supposed to take you on a certain kind of journey. The songs are very reminiscent of the story arch in Eat, Pray, Love. Elizabeth Gilbert (Julia Roberts) encounters many kinds of love and lovers much like in the album. Every song can fit into the film and it would only enhance the experience. The EP is a testament to Gunslingers’ Talent. She enamours her listeners with every strum of the strings. The album is layered abundantly with a wide variety of textures of sound. While it doesn’t adhere to the stereotypical standards of a “clean production” it most definitely doesn’t fall short of craft and deliberate world-building. These are things that can only be done by a true artist. I can’t wait to see what Gunslingers will create next. You can follow her too on the links attached below.
M.KREBS - PEGGY LEE
Peggy Lee by M.Krebs is a debut record that consolidates the band's place as one of the best forthcoming acts to emerge out of the contemporary Seattle indie scene. The Album, with 12 songs and a runtime of roughly 45 minutes takes you on a journey of introspection thanks to the brilliance of the songwriters. M.Krebs is Spencer Moody, Brian Yeager, and Jeff Alvarez. Recorded in Seattle, Washington, and N.Kohala, Hawaii, Peggy Lee boasts of intricately crafted soundscapes that venture into the realms of post-punk and shoegaze, while still maintaining its own unique identity as a standout indie record that introduces M.Krebs to the global masses. Dissecting Peggy Lee One of the salient features of the album lie in the fact that the lyrical narrative has been crafted in a manner that is reminiscent of poetry. Taking a page out of the books of blues music, the vocals are often portrayed as a 'dictation' rather than a song. This encapsulates the raw emotive quality of M.Krebs' music that puts them a notch above the rest of the competition. After the opening track called "John Prine" which is followed by the title track of the album, Peggy Lee quickly picks up the pace and engulfs the listener. The production of the album is top-notch. Whether its the ambient synth sounds or the reverberating walls of overdriven guitars, each element of the music sits perfectly in the stereo field. In turn, creating a sound that is reminiscent of the shoegaze and grunge music of the late 90s. The three-piece rock outfit has truly outdone itself with its debut instalment. While a song like "Middle Ground" explores the brighter and more cheerful aspect of M.Krebs' music, the album mostly holds onto a dark and ominous tonality. The musical influences are genre-defying. While tracks like "Calm The Beast" bears resemblance to RnB and Soul music, "Eyes in the Back of Her Head" is borderline metal. The band never wavers from their signature sound of gritty vocals over hairy guitar riffs, held together by groovy basslines. Till the very end of the album, which concludes with Songs in the Key of Maynard, M.Krebs manages to create a psychedelic vibe that sounds like a lovechild of Tool and Stone Temple Pilots. M.Krebs is here to stay Dropped in early February 2023, “Peggy Lee” is technically the first release in the catalogue, making this a particularly exciting project. This is some “fresh out of the oven” independent music that fans would only expect much more exciting things to come from. In fact, the band has already stated that a second album is currently in the works. And to put a cherry on top of that, my fellow vinyl junkies, there is an LP slated for distribution in the fall via Displaced Snail Publications. The album would work well as the soundtrack for both Mystery and Noir movies. The alternative and shoegaze influences give the record the basis required for it to accompany the darker themes that are generally attributed to such works of art. Particular movies that come to mind are Requiem for A Dream, Constantine, and Taxi Driver. In conclusion, M.Krebs has successfully created a captivating work of art with intricate songwriting and immaculate production. If you're a fan of indie alt-folk, grunge and shoegaze music with a hint of psychedelia, then this is one record that will find its place in your playlist. Fans worldwide can not wait to see what Moody, Yeager, and Alvarez have in store for them next!

The song would be a perfect fit for the indie music scene, as it beautifully showcases Shane Scarazzini & EightFingers' ability to combine traditional country elements with a contemporary twist, making it stand out in a genre often associated with conventional themes. In conversation with Shane: Sixteen sounds like it draws influences from Singer/Songwriter and Alternative Folk music. Can you tell us a little about your inspiration for the song? That’s a really interesting observation, particularly the Alternative Folk side of things! I come from a big traditional country background, but I would say that Sixteen is a solid example of many of my influences coming together, from Hank Williams Sr all the way to Green Day. My inspiration for the song as it is written comes from a place of strife with nostalgia as I’ve gotten older. For years, I’ve wondered what it would be like if I could buy back my innocence from my youth. I’ve come to the realization that much of what I’ve been pursuing in life is motivated by this craving to feel that ecstatic wave that you feel when you’re a kid discovering the wonders of life for the first time. So this song begs the question - if you could buy back your innocence, would you or should you do it? Walk us through the production process. How does the studio version differ from your live interpretation of this track? The bones of this song came together during quarantine in 2020, with a few rough sketches drawn up over the next couple years. I sort of abandoned it for a while, thinking it wasn’t strong enough to stand on its own. Eventually, I shacked up in a cabin and focused my attention on the structure and dynamics, recorded the guitars, vocals and bass, and came up with a concept that I sent out to a few session musicians who expanded on that blueprint. That was super exciting, and I am so grateful to the musicians who helped bring this song to life. At the time of this interview, I have actually only performed this song in a stripped-down acoustic format. The band and I are currently rehearsing our full live instrumentation of Sixteen, and I am stoked to see how it comes together! Your 2023 releases Sixteen and Free to Roam both explore different sonic palettes. Is there a particular sound that you are aiming for? Right - I would say those two songs are on different planets, but the same galaxy! I can’t say with conviction that there is one particular sound I’m chasing, because I’m still learning the way my emotions translate into the sonic world, and I’m just so fascinated by the way it’s playing out. However, I have been able to confidently commit to a genre I like to call “Cosmic Americana” as I feel that the music is taking an ethereal trip with traditional roots in tow. Is it safe to say that fans can expect a new full-length record real soon? Absolutely - that’s the plan. We may continue the strategy of releasing one song at a time to eventually fill out the entire album. I understand that attention spans are short these days and that’s the way most music is digested, but most importantly, that strategy allows us to give each song the chance it deserves to have the story told and understood individually. Four years after Dear Madeline, how has the reception been so far? How has the band grown as an act since? Oh boy, we have absolutely lived multiple lives since then. In my eyes, the Dear Madeline record was a proper example of a new, green band figuring things out by jumping in headfirst and just trusting the process. When I listen to those songs now, I feel a bit like I’m looking at my middle school yearbook - a bit cringy at some points, but I’m glad it happened. We’re proud of what we did and we still get a couple of those songs requested live. From then to now, we’ve certainly grown sonically and as a brotherly unit. We all went our own ways for a bit and experienced some transformative life experiences, and we have come together again prepared to paint the world in a whole new way. I’m so stoked to be working with Don and Lucas, and I love them so much. We’re ready to hit the road, get loud and tell some good stories out there! A Nostalgic Country Ballad Reviving Lost Times "Sixteen" could seamlessly complement the soundtracks of movies, with "Easy A" being one example. Its reflective and emotional nature aligns perfectly with the coming-of-age themes depicted in the film, adding depth to the characters' journeys. Additionally, the song's blend of folk and modern influences would make it a great addition to cult classics like "Boyhood", adding an authentic touch to the storyline. With a history rooted in dedication and hard work, the journey from a hired guitarist to a frontman and original artist Shane Scarazzini showcases his unwavering passion for music. His decision to step into the limelight with "Shane Scarazzini & EightFingers" demonstrates his relentless pursuit of artistic expression and growth. "Sixteen" is a testament to his evolution as a musician and a glimpse into the promising future that lies ahead for this talented artist in Nashville, Tennessee.
